Chimp Posted 30 April 2008 Posted 30 April 2008 Err, Megson's league record was worse. Maybe I should have qualified my comment to only include those managers who were here long enough to have any real effect on the team.... Adams, Levein, Kelly etc. Megson came in to a team of right-backs and wasn't here long enough to bring any other players in. When you look at the league, to be honest the problem hasn't been that we've not won enough, its that we've lost and drew in key games that have gifted some terrible sides vital points - Holloway's record just the average of what we've been this season, shite. Yes, overall we've been poor for the whole season, nothing has changed, which in itself is quite revealing. Don't you think we should of seen some improvement over the past 6 months, especially given the fact that Holloway has had the finances and plenty of opportunity to bring in players.
Chimp Posted 30 April 2008 Posted 30 April 2008 Try doing a ratio for the number of managers Stearman has played under per month and then you'll be raising stats that have a bearing on our current predicament. Six months is plenty of time to bring in some stability to the club and get the team playing, thinking and performing how you want them to. Regardless of how many managers we've had over the past years, Holloway has had plenty of time to stamp his mark on the club. As always - the inference from his win ratio is that someone else would have done better, and I don't believe they would have. I guess that where we differ, I believe another manager could have done better with this squad.
Raj Posted 30 April 2008 Posted 30 April 2008 And bloody unlucky in a whole number of matches - if Kisnorbo had not been sent off in both of the games where the red card was recinded we wouldn't even be bothered about Sunday's match.Holloway had a shite squad, some real bastard luck and a bunch of fickle boo-boys who one minutes vote him to stay and the next for him to leave. If we beat Stoke then most of this board will suddenly want to give him the keys to the city. Im probably one of them fickle boo boys. BUT at the moment even if we DO stay up,id want him out. I think he is tactically inept. The most important thing is we get stability but with that we need a stable mananger and i dont think he is the man. I feel bad,cos i liked him but he's the sort of manager you love IF you are winning. I hate his stupid remarks and funny comments when we are facing relegation in the face Thats my opinion and im sticking to it

That's just conjecture. Holloway had a shite squad, some real bastard luck and a bunch of fickle boo-boys who one minutes vote him to stay and the next for him to leave. A 'shite' squad? Firstly, he brought in a lot of these players soif they're shite then he's responsible. Secondly, we've got a better squad now than we've ever had since coming back down to this division. If we beat Stoke then most of this board will suddenly want to give him the keys to the city. Not me. I've seen enough to convince me that if we do somehow beat Stoke and/or escape relegation, we'll be no better off next season.

Ball Oakley Howard Hayles Worley Hendrie (loan) Clapham (loan) Lazcko (loan) Bori (loan) Alnwicck (loan) Surely if we have a better side it is because Holloway and Penrice have decided they are better than what we have? Also You then say they are Shite players? Is that not a contradiction?

I think we have a reasonably good team that should be more than able to compete in this league. Moreover, I think if we had a different manager then we would see that this same bunch of players being more successfull.

I agree with the good team but disagree with the different manager point of view! Confusing "yes" but explain to me why you think this thin I will tell you why i think like I do

Confusing "yes" but explain to me why you think this thin I will tell you why i think like I do Must I go over all of it again? Can't you just do a search and see what I've posted previously as to where I think Holloway has gone wrong? If you want me to detail my criticisms you'll have to wait a bit of time for me to write it all...

The likes of Howard,Clem,Oakley etc....shouldnt be in a team who get relegated from The fcuking Championship. Can anyone say 'On paper' we have a team as bad as Colcester or Scunnie? Shocking!

Howard and Oakley have made little difference. If football was played on paper it would be easy and boring!

Of course I was expecting the upturn from the first two games Holloway had to keep going and he's certainly underachieved as if he hadn't we'd be a comfortable 16th or so, but if Bolton hadn't saved us from Megson we'd be down by now.
Daggers Posted 30 April 2008 Author Posted 30 April 2008 Six months is plenty of time to bring in some stability to the club and get the team playing, thinking and performing how you want them to. Regardless of how many managers we've had over the past years, Holloway has had plenty of time to stamp his mark on the club. He has - until last Saturday we were up the top end of the form table and he has achieved some notable victories...it's just that no one wants to focus on them, they'd rather grab a scapegoat and hang him. Again - last week 75% of people here wanted him to stay, one loss and everyone leaps up and down like hysterical teenage girls demanding something get done because life is just so unfair! Rome wasn't built in a day. That's just conjecture. And as valid as any other totally unprovable opinion on here. We have been blighted this season with some real shit luck on an unbelievable level. But it must be all Call-me-Ollie's fault, eh? I'm not convinced that all of his decisions have worked out - but that doesn't mean we dump him for...err...ah yes, that brings me back to the initial point - who the **** do we bin him for? The list contains a whole load of managers who wouldn't dream of coming here, ones that have already refused us and the rest is made up of not-rights. The argument isn't solvable, we believe in a different solution to the current problem and I have no problem with that. I do have a problem with the vocal idiots who six days ago were singing his praises and will do so again on Monday. And, on top of all of that, I reckon that all of you in the Ollie-out camp are going to get your way soon enough - I just hope you all try to get behind the new bloke a little bit harder than you have this one.
Daggers Posted 30 April 2008 Author Posted 30 April 2008 BallOakley Howard Hayles Worley Hendrie (loan) Clapham (loan) Lazcko (loan) Bori (loan) Alnwicck (loan) Is Ball a player we have signed for the final game on some kind of emergency loan? The ones in bold have failed to excel - some failing to even be average. Again, I'd argue, this isn't Ollie's fault either. Mid-season signings rarely pay off for any club but we had no choice but to grab what flotsam was available. If he signed a load in the summer who failed to perform, then I would join his lynching party...but not now. Not yet.

Id only say Hendrie and Bellend!

Daggers Posted 30 April 2008 Author Posted 30 April 2008 of FFS, 1 mistake.............. Michael Ball? Surely not. You've had enough fun with my thousand cock ups over the last couple of days - fairs fair!
Raj Posted 30 April 2008 Posted 30 April 2008 That's my point about mid-season signings. Do you REALLY think Ollie is the man to sort us out? Like i say,im ashamed to say ive gone of him BUT i do believe the main thing we need is stability and the other contenders for manager aint gonna be much better(apart from the mighty Steve McClaren!) Im confused....not just sexually...but at the moment i do want the nutter out!!!!

He did a good job at Plymouth, maybe some including me did not realise the crippling mental attitudes of our players. Them jokers need to be either kicked up the arse or kicked overboard. They are the anchor pulling this club down.

He has done it before, he will do it again. Nonsense about us being 'too big' for him, what utter crap. A team is a team and a squad is a squad. Seeing as people forget how they were thinking last week on the issue it is not surprising that they have all forgotten what an absolute **** up of a club we were when he arrived. This stuff doesn't get turned around in half a season, it simply isn't possible. In addition: I want us to spend the money we'd otherwise be giving him and his team to buy players. I see no managerial alternative I'd vote for who would want the job. And this is the last post I'm making on the matter, I'm boring myself
