Jimmy Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 Well I would imagine it was massive for him after all the years spent as an apprentice and dreaming of becoming a professional footballer etcetera, there's still a long way to go but this was a very important step fro him as no contract would have meant unemployment and uncertainty. It's sad that you're so dismissive of it. yes its a big deal for him, but its not a massive deal for the club, especially on a day where we have just appointed a new manager, its not like he came into the side and impressed last season, its just another youth teamer (albeit a highly promising one) coming of age and being given a pro contract
Flynny Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 Too right..Especially as Pearson is not likely to be given a massive transfer budget. I almost hope he's not. With the exception of using our option on David Bell, I just don't see why he should have to sign anyone. A couple of defenders if our good ones all leave, perhaps.
Thracian Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 i would be a bit wary of throwing all the young guns into the thick of the action all season long... there are some pretty meaty defenders in the first div who will consider it a personal victory no matter what the scoreline to see the person they were marking taken off injured... Sooner or later it's going to sink in that the game has changed. All you get now for challenges that are likely to injure people is a caution followed by a sending off, the conceding of free-kicks which can be costly and a pissed off manager who is likely to leave you out of the team for being irresponsible. Speed of foot, speed of passing and inter-positional versatility are the key factors nowadays. Ferguson and Wenger have demonstrated as much week in, week out and it is there to see and admire in the European Championships. All footballers have to be fit and competitive but the days of the thug has long passed. As I've said many times, it is not the performance of young players that has let us down in recent seasons. Just managers who don't have sufficient faith to use them and who've prefered to use lumbering or limited loanees instead. Beswick's long been playing against men in the reserves, has trained for months with the first team and passes the ball far too quickly to be easy meat for a thug anyway. He'll cope fine given chance and so will Gradel and how many games they'll be capable of will depend on how they cope but I'd hope the manager will have the wisdom to use them sensibly along with others like Porter (if he's recovered) and Kingy as well.
Father Ted Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 Ryan came down the Walkers today to sign. Was made to wait 20 minutes went in signed (5 minutes) then went home. No fuss no fanfare. What else do you know?
Thracian Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 why should there be a big fuss he's an academy player being given a pro deal, its not Leo Messi signing There was no fuss. There never has been with Beswick. All he's ever done at Leicester is get on with doing his job properly and effectively. It was the likes of Laczko, Oakley, Clemence, Howard and Hayles who got all the fuss and they weren't Lionel Messi signings either. All you've got on here is a few people who've taken the chance to wish good luck to another youngster who's already bought credit on our club and who's now won the honour of a senior contract. Considering the impact of the players I've mentioned I don't know why anyone would begrudge him his brief mention.

When I had my new contract, they posted the bloody thing out to me. I expected the CE at least to put on a bit of a show. The ungrateful bastard.
