Webbo Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 If hume had gone to shef u or wolves i would be more sympatheticbut he chose to leave us for barnsley, why? cause they offered the most money. They might get relegated next season and he'll be playing in front of 9 thousand. It's all about the money. Perhaps Hume went to Barnsley because they were the only team that wanted him.
Guest Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 I'm more concerned about the players coming to the club, if we get round to signing any that is. Exactly. Players come and go, it's all part of the game. If we can get players in who want to be here, all the better. My fear is that many will see us as a gravy train, what with the Mandaric factor, and the fact we had one of the highest wage bills in the Championship. If this is the case, then expect more mercenaries.

So who were you hoping for....players that had always expressed a burning desire to play in the third division for Leicester City......get real..... money is the only reason almost any footballer goes to another club
Bert Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 Probably cos they can afford to put their feet up and do nothing. Anyway, I hold no grudges against players leaving or in this case, "jumping a sinking ship" even if they were partly responsible for putting the club in this mess.Furthermore, how can anyone expect loyalty from a squad of players that couldnt even muster passion or determination for the majority of last season? I'm more concerned about the players coming to the club, if we get round to signing any that is. What you have to realise is, we're playing in League One now. It's not as attractive as the championship, and a prime example of it, is Iain Hume going to Barnsley, of all clubs. We're not going to be signing big, well known, top players, we'll be signing has beens still trying to ply their trade, or up and coming youngsters from this league, or the one below.

Other clubs in this division have players like that, why shouldn't we?
Scow Posted 30 June 2008 Posted 30 June 2008 'Loyalty' rarely exists in modern football. Stearman and Hume have acted like the vast majority of footballers would have done - seeked a better deal at a higher level. As it's been mentioned countless of times, no one should moan or even be surprised by their actions. I really couldn't care less about them pair leaving anyway - both were guilty of putting in shite performances and were ultimately collectively responsible for relegation. They were also both massively overrated, particularly Stearman - plus, I'm delighted we've been able to shaft those clubs involved by taking stupid amounts of money from them. How Mandaric will use the money is up for debate, but I'm glad to get rid of two players who epitomised the on-field failure over recent seasons.

RedHux Posted 1 July 2008 Posted 1 July 2008 Player loyalty...... fat chance! And to be honest I don't really blame them. There's all sorts of reasons players leave clubs even ones they pretend to have supported as a youth. Money, being let go cos they aren't good enough, being let go cos the club needs the money even a wife who would prefer to live somewhere nice (a paticular problem for Middlesboro players) has been used in the past. I don't think we're in any position to judge a person because they want to seek employment elsewhere unless we're in full position of the facts. Which, lets face it, we seldom are.
