AoWW Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Thats my issue i've ruined the lining of my stomach too many times going on a massive bender with nothing to eat. causing every thing i eat to give me really bad acidic heart burn, felt like i was having a stroke or heart attack at only 22. I've said this several times before but it warrants repeating. If you know you're going on a bender take milk thistle beforehand. (If it's an unplanned bender take it afterwards - it's still better than nothing!) It will go some way towards protecting your stomach lining (yes, ideally, you should never get plastered in the first place... but in the real world...) and your liver will thank you for it. I survived many years of working in PR within an exceedingly 'drink orientated' social environment and put it down to the milk thistle. It was recommended to me by a 'drinking pro' when I was getting similar 'stomach/intestine' related symptoms that were undeniably due to the vast amounts of alcohol I was consuming. Could be entirely psychological, I suppose, but certainly seemed to work for me and I still take it as a precaution if I know I'm gonna be drowning my system in alcohol. Oh, and good luck. 3 months isn't actually that long but it's certainly the 'social situations' that are most difficult. Do you drive? If so, I find offering to drive helps as it gives you an excuse for not drinking rather than just being seen as 'wimping out'.
Matt Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 I was in a routine of getting in from work and drinking 4, 5, sometimes 6 cans every night of the week, then going out at the weekend and getting even more hammered. I was piling on the weight, feeling shit every morning, and it wasn't just me realising it myself, people were commenting on it, so a few weeks ago I stopped drinking on weeknights, barr one night of the week - Pub night (Thursday nights) then I would allow myself to drink at the weekend too, I have been doing pretty well tbh and people have started to comment I look "trimmer" again - Already after about 3 weeks

No idea. never heard of them Went down to the local pub watched 4 mates drink a skinful in 5 hours and me drinking coke and betting a hell of a lot more on the races. Wasn't to bad if it was at a club i would of cried not probably not drinking at least it was just a casual beer and punt.
