Daggers Posted 18 August 2008 Posted 18 August 2008 You got one? The DAB one? The fact that this is expandable makes it top my list of MP3/Dab players...a list of effectively one. It's going to be bought unless someone can tell me bad stuff about it.
Daggers Posted 18 August 2008 Author Posted 18 August 2008 Now, finally, I recently bought some speakers and tried them with both the cowon and my brother's 5th Generation 80GB ipod. I was shocked to notice the sound quality was actually better coming from the ipod, - richer, and clearer. This was highly unexpected. I then compared both players using my headphones (playing the same track of course), and no amount of adjustments to the Cowon's sound settings could make it sound as good as the iPod. I've since tried it with various musical styles, and every time , the ipod's sound quality is cleaner, richer, with more depth.I had other people listen too, and they too agreed. It's left me on a bit of a downer, as I thought the player could do no wrong. I still think the sound quality is very good, but I'm now thinking about getting an ipod. Hairy?
James. Posted 18 August 2008 Posted 18 August 2008 Hairy? I've got an 80GB 5th generation iPod and the sound quality is fantastic, partly due to the CX500's of course. This Cowon machine - 4GB? Expandable maybe but for the price you only get 4GB? DAB is a nice touch, admittedly but that is f**k all memory.
hairy Posted 18 August 2008 Posted 18 August 2008 Hairy? Not got one and not seen one. All I would say is that if it is small then it will shit to watch stuff on. My eyes are going to so the bigger the better to echo Mrs H's words. The touch screen sounds good but then you have to use a toothpick to select the feature because the size of the screen is so small. The expandable memory sounds good.

A 32gb card and 16gb inside the one I fancy - plus a spare card when the price drops equals a huge pocket weight saving...and it isn't an iPod and won't need iLooneyToones. I need a music player (the use of the term need is not officially recognised by wife#1 presently but is due for discussion and ratification shortly) 52hrs battery life is tres appealing. Not got one and not seen one. All I would say is that if it is small then it will shit to watch stuff on. The expandable memory sounds good. I've got the Archos to watch movies on but fancy a smaller, more lightweight music player with a large capacity. My phone contract isn't up for 6 months so I see this as a reasonable stopgap. Looks like I have to find a forum on Cowons to read... Cheers all.
Daggers Posted 18 August 2008 Author Posted 18 August 2008 ERm - one blazing revue...and one very funny video one One bloke with wife away at work one Cowon better off! She'll never notice.
hairy Posted 18 August 2008 Posted 18 August 2008 Let us know how you get on with it then. DAB sounds good.
Daggers Posted 18 August 2008 Author Posted 18 August 2008 Let us know how you get on with it then. DAB sounds good. Goddamit - I made the mistake of looking at more reviews and found some sucky ones regarding the quality of the DAB. I want to listen to The Archers & 5Live while walking the dog...now I'm not sure the Cowon is the way forward I'm lost. Seems the only alternative to that is the highly rated Goodmans DAB for the iPod. Crikey do I not want an iPod. I can see this ending in tears.

I only see a Goodmans DAB radio with iPod dock but that isn't the sort of thing you can take with you when you're walking the dog... Is there some clip on DAB thing you can get? If there is, I'm excited.

hairy Posted 18 August 2008 Posted 18 August 2008 Roberts - Goodmans - same difference Looking at the picture, why the ipod? Its got the headphones plugged into the Roberts thingy. Does it work without the ipod? Its a shame they put the tigers coverage on DAB when city and them clash. I find it very annoying having to find an FM radio in the house. Edit: I see now it sucks the power out of the ipod. Cool unless you have a nano.
Daggers Posted 22 August 2008 Author Posted 22 August 2008 JTB won the day with the capacity argument - so I got the Classic and the robi DAB thing. Whether it is just incompatibility with previous generations, I don't know, but the thing works perfectly with my 160gb jobbie...none of the online criticisms on Amazon apply - it's great. I feel like Apple got my drunk yesterday and I woke up this morning in bed with an iPod and a stupid guilty smile. I've even found a liking for iTunes, albeit with some reservations about the chunk of memory it takes up when running and its refusal to put the library where I want it. Oh, and album covers appearing in the library but not on the iPod. Anyway - the DAB is great.
hairy Posted 22 August 2008 Posted 22 August 2008 I got the Classic and the robi DAB thing. So does it make you feel dirty?
Daggers Posted 22 August 2008 Author Posted 22 August 2008 So does it make you feel dirty? It makes me feel a bit of a prat. All the ranting I've done against the stuff -and yet it all works...errr...quite well indeed. I still reckon the sound from the iTouch is too tinny and the old iTunes used to be dreadful - but this version works well with the Classic. Chalk another one up to the ever growing list of "Things I Have Been Totally Wrong About" (which includes keeping Holloway, voting Labour and eating jalapeños on my pizza last night).
