davieG Posted 9 April 2005 Posted 9 April 2005 According to McGhee; FOOTBALL: MCGHEE: TOUGH HEARTS NEEDED TO BEAT CELTIC Apr 9 2005 Hugh Keevins MARK McGHEE believes Celtic will be missing one vital ingredient when they face up to Hearts in their Scottish Cup semi-final tomorrow - himself However, the former Parkhead striker still believes Celtic will win the Hampden showdown unless Tynecastle captain Steven Pressley gets mean at Hampden, in a way his former boss Craig Levein never could. McGhee reckons that was a lesson Levein never learned when he was at Hearts and McGhee was scoring regularly. The day the Brighton manager remembers best was the Scottish Cup semi-final in 1988, when Hearts led by the only goal of the game with only three minutes left. He said: 'I always felt I would score a goal against Hearts when I was at Celtic. And one of the reasons was Craig always tried to play fair and would never go out to deliberately hurt you. 'If you were up against Alex McLeish at Aberdeen or Derek Johnstone when he was in Rangers' defence, you knew you were eventually going to take a dull one during the game. 'They had that bit of professional badness about them that Craig was too nice a guy to possess on the park. But that day against Hearts was one of the best examples of a never say-die attitude that I ever witnessed as a player'I have a great photograph of my equalising goal at home which sums up the fighting spirit. There are nine Hearts players in the frame and I'm the only Celtic player, but it's my goal. 'To this day, I'm not sure how the ball manages to squeeze its way through so many defenders to beat the keeper. But it was the stroke of luck we needed.' Andy Walker went on to score the winner as Celtic completed their remarkable comeback. Celtic fans will be convinced their side can't possibly lose a league and a cup match to Hearts in Glasgow over successive weekends but McGhee wouldn't be so sure. He said: 'Hearts have the memory of a 2 - 0 win over Celtic last week fresh in their minds. 'Hearts will never be able to match Celtic in terms of league status, but, on a game-by-game basis against them, it's not outwith the bounds of possibility they could win two on the bounce. Even in Glasgow. 'The league win will have boosted their confidence for the cup tie and it would be naive to think otherwise

Steven Posted 9 April 2005 Posted 9 April 2005 One of the best moments v Athletico Madrid in Spain was the chant "Are you watching Mark McGhee".
Frenzied Posted 11 April 2005 Posted 11 April 2005 So basically what Mcghee was saying is that Levein didn't cheat as a player. Sh*t, that must mean the man has some backbone and tried to play football the way it's supposed to be played.
