Daggers Posted 4 October 2008 Posted 4 October 2008 yeh but we neede some one to accompany him well said though I refer the honourable gentleman (or lady) to the answer I gave some moments ago...
eye666 Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 Couple of thoughts - Dickinson today looked pretty tasty, big and strong and pacey (don't know about his finishing though as the Tunch and Hobbs didn't really give him much besides headers where he caused problems). Also, anyone else liking the look of Mackail-Smith?
coale39 Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 Even though Fryatt scored a brace I still think we're clearly lacking up front, we need to be taking every chance we get which this pair aren't. Come on. Can people stop moaning about our strikers/team when we are clear at the top of the league and one of our strikers has scored like 9 goals in 10 games. Just be happy for once. Cant be happy a lot being a Leicester supporter recently, so put on a smile! Now!

Fryatt is scoring yes but is quite unreliable, I don't care if this is Div 3 or the Premiership, but strikers should be able to put 1-on-1's away IMO. Just because we're top of the league it doesn't mean the team is flawless. I'm sure if we had not have won yesterday 99% of this forum would have berated Fryatt for another 1-on-1 miss.

I agree with that. Fryatt missed probably the easiest chance he's going to get all season, and if we'd have drawn, people would have been going mad.I know i was when he missed. I dont mind Fryatt, he's improved everything no end this season, but he still has to put that first chance away. It was the same against Colchester from what i can gather and what i saw from the highlights, he missed a hatful there.

I like Fryatt and he will no doubt bag 20+ this season, but my main concern is that if we gain promotion, he won't score many at all because as we've seen you need to take all your chances or else you are doomed. I know it is ridiculous to think that far ahead already, but just imagine how good this team could be if we had a striker that took the majority of their chances. We may be top, but we can always strive to be better.

We may be top, but we can always strive to be better. Crazy. 91 other teams in the Premiership and Football League and we have more points per game than any of them. One of our strikers is one shy of double figures just two months into the season. I think some people just need to sit back and enjoy it. I also don't think some of our fans realise how good Fryatt looks to opposition fans. Without the perspective of last season and not relative to the league above, he works all game, actually looks pretty quick in comparison to League One centre-backs, creates chances for himself, creates chances for others and always looks a goalscoring threat even when not playing particularly well. Thankfully this is one where the majority of fans have got it right and he's being rewarded for his great goalscoring form by having 2,500 people bellowing his name at an away game after scoring twice. So he's meant to be doing this well because it's only League One or it's his level? What about supposedly top Championship strikers Howard and Campbell last season? Any striker on earth will barrel chances wide when they should score but not many will still, in the same game, score twice and set up a third to win a game as tricky as yesterday was. I've not been his biggest fan in the past but sometimes you have to revel in the moment - four league wins in a row including two away wins in the space of four days? Yes please.

If you keep ignoring it and labouring under this daft notion that strikers convert nearly all of their chances you're going to be in for a bit of mocking
dandannieldanok Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 I've already responded to your initial post about this with cold hard stat-fact.If you keep ignoring it and labouring under this daft notion that strikers convert nearly all of their chances you're going to be in for a bit of mocking Why would I be mocked when the "cold hard stat-fact" is that Fryatt misses the majority of his 1-on-1 chances and it could quite easily have cost us points twice this week. The transformation of some people is amazing, he got shot down and ridiculed for missing chances in the last 2 seasons. People seem to be interpreting my concern over his missed chances as dislike for the bloke which is completely wrong. He would be my first choice striker every time but I don't see why I should be jumped upon for having the expectation of him taking his 1-on-1 chances.
Guest ttfn Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 I don't care how many chances Fryatt misses so long as he keeps scoring. His movement allows him to get into the positions to get the chances. I can't believe anybody can be having a go at someone who has 9 goals by the start of October. At this rate he'll have 20 by christmas

You infer that other strikers bang away the majority of their chances...and as I posted: Like all the other forwards in...err...which league exactly?Look at today's stats below - we had 10 attempts of which 4 were on target and put away 3 of them. Seriously, exactly where are you watching football where the final score could have been 1-10? dunno.gif I really don't get that crap that is being thrown at Fryatt. He isn't a Premier League striker...but hey, guess what? This is Division III. Goal Attempts 17 : 10 Goal Attempts On Target 6 : 4 On Target Crosses 4 : 5 Crosses Corners 4 : 5 Corners Offside - : 3 Offside Fouls 16 : 19 Fouls Free kicks 23 : 16 Free kicks Yellow cards 2 : 3 Yellow cards Red cards - : - Red cards % Possession 55 : 45 Possession % I think you'll find that he was ridiculed last season because he missed chances and didn't score. I'm not berating him because he's playing at his level and doing a fine job - and I don't have daft expectations for him to be performing like an FM08 player with computer-like accuracy and consistency. Who are the players you are rating him against? Who is capable of achieving a better goals per match ratio than he currently is? Players miss chances, that's life. The fact that he has the confidence to then step up to the spot is surely a mark on the plus side? The fact that he continues to bang away goals is surely a reason to quit knocking him? I got my stats from the OS - where do yours come from?
Durnerz Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 the problem is he needs 4 chances to score 1 goal, he won't get that every game, he needs to be more ruthless, that's all people are saying If he kept up a ratio of 4 chances to 4 goals he wouldn't be playing for us. Man City would sign him.
Daggers Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 the problem is he needs 4 chances to score 1 goal, he won't get that every game, he needs to be more ruthless, that's all people are saying The Geordies never minded about that for Andy Cole. I am pretty sure that you are confusing Div III for Serie A.
Jimmy Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 The Geordies never minded about that for Andy Cole.I am pretty sure that you are confusing Div III for Serie A. no the problem with Matty is he will miss the "easy" chance but then score 1 he has no right to
BigGibbo Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 the problem is he needs 4 chances to score 1 goal, he won't get that every game, he needs to be more ruthless, that's all people are saying But the only reason he gets so many chances a game is through his own doing & quality positioning if he continues with any thing like his current goal/game ratio then no one can have any complaints!!! Until we get back into the championship & he finds himself getting half the chances he does here so therefor scores less leading to a confidence drop & an even worse chance/goal ratio!

The fact that he continues to bang away goals is surely a reason to quit knocking him? I'm not knocking him, in fact I'm one of very few posters that refused to ridicule him last season. There is a subtle difference between mocking and simple honest concern. And just because I think a few other strikers would take some of the chances Fryatt misses it doesn't mean I don't want him here.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 no the problem with Matty is he will miss the "easy" chance but then score 1 he has no right to Why is that a problem?
BigGibbo Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 no the problem with Matty is he will miss the "easy" chance but then score 1 he has no right to & thats a problem because . . . ?
Jimmy Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 Why is that a problem? & thats a problem because . . . ? because when his luck changes (which it will inevitably will) he won't get the goals he has no right to and will still be missing the sitters like last season, I would much rather it be the other way around as he will always get 1 on 1 chances but eventually the more spectacular goals will get saved and blocked by defenders

It's not currently a problem at all. Even when applying your theory, who's to say he wouldn't start scoring the easier chances? Anyhow, I don't think any of his goals this season have been particularly spectacular.
BigGibbo Posted 5 October 2008 Posted 5 October 2008 Blah! Chillax, he'll have no problems in this division. But as I said in my earlier post the championship will be a different kettle of fish!!
