No wonder the horse stayed hungry!

Anyone know where I can get a sensibly priced but half decent pub meal on the Hinckley side of Leicestershire?

I thought I'd hit on the solution with the Hungry Horse/Mill on the Soar pub at Croft til the meal arrived.

And then I discovered exactly why the horse stayed hungry. It had probably eaten there before and once was enough!

I didn't think there was too much you could do wrong with fish and chips but the fish was so overdone I wondered if it had been cooked for a previous customer as well.

As for the bread it seemed so old it might have been a bit left over from Christ's feeding of the 5,000.

The waitress clearly missed the point when she asked if 'everything was alright' and we complained. She offered us a free sweet. As if anyone served a lousy meal should actually want to eat some more.

It was our second visit in a week. The first time the til malfunctioned and, as is often the case nowadays, particularly at garages, once the electronics go, a fair impression of chaos ensued.

Which all leaves me needing a regular eathouse where we can relax after a day's trading and where they take a bit of pride in what they do.

Such a refined being should never be made to cook for himself.

How do you overcook a simple cod in batter. lol

What about the sense of achievement cooking an abosulte master piece like cooking sausages in rosemary and thyme. Or hash browns and dim sims on the bbq. Or just an awesome salad sandwich

My parents live in Earl Shilton, the poor sods. The Hinckley area certainly lacks good eating establishment. The only suggestion I can make is the Man at Arms in Bitteswell, although that is closer to Lutterworth. The Bluebell in Stoney Stanton is also worthy of a shout, but it really depends what you are looking for. Both of the aforementioned establishments offer very good steaks, or at least they did when I last patronised them. The Man at Arms steak was in league of it's own. Melt in the mouth stuff.
