i really don't get the obsession with eating out at pubs all the time , home food is far superior with just a little practice

The Red Cow on the A47, just before LFE was good the last time we went there.

There's also the Axe & Compass just outside Wolvey, or the Blue Pig in the village itself, both serve good food.

If you want to go a little further, then over the border there is a really nice pub, The Pheasant, I think it's called, in Withybrook.

The Bell at Monks Kirby as well is probably one of the best pub/restaurants in the whole of Leicestershire IMO. Superb.

My parents live in Earl Shilton, the poor sods. The Hinckley area certainly lacks good eating establishment. The only suggestion I can make is the Man at Arms in Bitteswell, although that is closer to Lutterworth. The Bluebell in Stoney Stanton is also worthy of a shout, but it really depends what you are looking for. Both of the aforementioned establishments offer very good steaks, or at least they did when I last patronised them. The Man at Arms steak was in league of it's own. Melt in the mouth stuff.

It was my favourite choice a not too long ago but it went downhill rapidly and I've not heard that it's recovered. When I used to go you'd have queues outside at 6.00. Two steaks and a bottle of wine for around £12.50 at the time.

It's a bit far out anyway. Basically I want somewhere just outside the City.

As for the bread it seemed so old it might have been a bit left over from Christ's feeding of the 5,000.

Nice to see the Ricoh got it's catering supply in the end :P

Cook for yourself

:D :D With my youngest son being a chef and my wife probably as good as him in the kitchen, there's no chance of me getting anywhere near the gas cooker even if I wanted to.

The whole idea is to save my wife having to come home after 10 hours at the market to yet more work. I know it let's em know their place but even I can see she's knackered. :D :D

Couldn't Levi and Andy King do the cooking?:P

Thanks Lisa. I'll look forward to trying the Pheasant but it's a bit far for the circumstances and the same with the Axe and Compass and Ric's suggestion, both of which I like. But the Red Cow sounds perfect.

Levi's out cos it's dangerous standing on a stool near a hot stove. :D:rolleyes:

But surely Kingy could be in there, assisting Levi, spreading the tools to him? :giggle:
