Alexikokopops Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 To be honest I'd be happy if they made the Premier League a closed shop, swan off around the world playing the 39th game in other continents while paying £80 for a home game ticket as some kind of corporate money making machine, leaving the Championship, League One and League Two as the proper league. We could incorporate the Conference in, rename them Divisions 1-4, bring back standing, regress about 30 years and all be happy. No one abroad would care about Div 1 and it wouldn't get all the money of the Premiership (just like at the moment really), but it'd be sweet because it'd be a genuinely competitive league system, instead of just having four teams that can do anything. There are probably a billion flaws with this plan which I came up with when drunk one time but balls to it, I'm sticking to my guns and getting on the case. fook it, lets bring the Anglo-Italian Cup back while we're at it.
The People's Hero Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 Yes Alex. Yes. Then we could have proper cult heroes who'd play here forever, like Steve Walsh etc.
davieG Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 Two Premierships would be class. I'd love it. Why?

Tevez Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 Why not? If money is going to take over the Premiership why can't other teams get involved in the action too? Your Boltons, Sunderlands (even though they've spend alot) Blackburns, Hammers are never going to be in with a top shout of the title. And everyone reading this thread knows that for a fact. Everyone knows in this thread foreign investment and money alone is ruining the Premiership. Ok Hull City are up their but I'm pretty sure money hasn't got to where they are now. Maybe teams in two Premiership divisions may earn a bit of respect from the pundits who rave on about the top 4 and maybe have a chance in the UEFA Cup as for winning the other league.

Having two Premierships wont affect the strength of the top four or make it easier for anyone else to win anything so I can't see why you think it will. Winning the Premiership 2 would be no different to winning the Championship. The only 'real' change in this idea is no relegation from what would in effect be a smaller Championship. Do they not remember how it was when it was almost impossible to get promoted from the Conference?

That's a circus that I certainly wouldn't want Leicester to be part of.
Ultra Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 I suspect the current chairman might have a different view. Especially with the losses he's making from us at the moment.
Head Honcho Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 Fair play, you got me , and I totally agree with you about the Premier League ruining football. I just feel that those are the two things which should be done to even the playing field.Realistically though, UEFA and the Premier League seem interested only in flogging their biggest brands to the rest of the world, not the sporting competitions which they are supposed to oversee. So I can honestly see a situation soon whereby Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool all join a European Super League, chase the money and become part of a huge football circus. Then the rest of the English clubs can get back to genuinely exciting league seasons again, which would be great for me as I'm too young to really remember such occurrences. I seem to have got the wrong end of the stick here! I thought we were on about 2 top leagues with playoffs for the champs at the end!!! I'll get me coat
