Bit of rationale and logic

Today everyone is slagging Leicester off, slagging Levein off, etc. Some people have even been calling for Levein's head (probably those same ones who cheered his appointment)

The fact is Wigan are a better team than us. They worked harder than us and were much more organised and disciplined in their play than us. In short, they gave us a footballing lesson. There is a reason they are top two and we are not. I was not happy with Levein's selection today, however, we could have played any combination of players and would have lost today, for we are simply not strong enough.

All areas of the team need strengthening (I do not subscribe to this logic that we have a decent defence and midfield). It does not take a psychic to speculate that many players will be released and replaced come the end of the season.

The only real complaint against Levein is De Vries. He looks a shocking purchase to me, but when you consider that Levein's other signings have been Maybury, McCarthy and Hughes, I am prepared to overlook this indiscretion. Every manager makes a transfer mistake. Do you not remember the £1 million Fenton running about in a Leicester shirt under the managerial reign of O'Neill.

The recognition is clearly there that our players are not good enough (City are spending a lot of money on plane tickets to scout abroad). The summer and the transfer dealings that occur will tell us more about Levein's plans. Right now, unfortunately, we are playing with a large selection of players who Levein may not want to be working with but is unfortunately stuck with.

Face facts. Today we got beat by a better team. End of. It may be depressing that a small team with such a small fanbase from a little town is far and away better than us, but that is the case.

Tuesday is the big game. Win that and safety is guaranteed. Whether you love or loath Levein, I still do not believe he is able to give a full account of his managerial ability until he has had a chance to get rid of the dross and bring in players to shape his own team. In the meantime, the Cardiff game is all that matters. I think the players should be up for Tuesday. They certainly owe us a good performance.

Well said, good post.

I agree that we shouldn't be too angry with defeat yesterday - they are a better team than us. Simple.

However, I would just like to add that some people on here were far too quick to sing Levein's praises when he arrived, and got carried away with his appointment. What I have learned about supporting LCFC is that past achievement means nothing - so to say that Levein will turn things around next season (like he did with Hearts) doesn't convince me. I am not calling for his head - I will give him until the end of next season to prove himself, but there are a few signs that it will not be plain sailing next season either.

We need to stop playing players out of position for starters. We have plenty of right backs at the club and yet Levein continues to persist with McCarthy there. Similarly Maybury is not a left back. That is what angers me.

Strangely (or unstrangely) enough all the talk with my little group after the match was condemming the players for a poor performance and not Levein, to be fair, in my view, Dublin and possibly Gillespe were the only ones who seemed to want it yesterday. I am 100% behind Levein but he did make some tactical errors yesterday.

My concern is getting enough points to avoid the drop. I know the other strugglers are poor but I'm so unconvinced by the dross at City.

Levein needs to do a "root and branch" clearout in the summer, starting with the Duffer from Dordrecht. I don't care if he has got a 3 year contract either!

He must also stop playing people out of their natural position. It's bizarre and mostly not called for.

Rant over. Let's just beat the Welshmen.

I think that Anish is correct in saying that people went overboard about Levein's appointment. What worries me is that, his players or not, he should be able to fire the players up and motivate them. He does not appear to be the 2nd MON in that respect. Although I only saw TV highlights Wigan seemed to outfought, out muscled and outran them. It was not down to skill.

The future under Levein may still be bright and long term he may well turn it round but it is the short term lack of fight that concerns me.I can't believe that MON wouldn't have put a rocket up this lot and got them winning a few games instead of scraping draws and home defeats.

I'm no Chandler but we need to see a few glimpses of a brighter future or any optimism about next season will soon evaporate whatever the close season signings.

Agree 99% that it was due to the players performance (only doubt being the full backs being asked to do a job they shouldn't have to. Maybury should be at right back with a proper left footed player on the left) and the attitude of certain individuals for 75% of the game. Our midfield or lack of it was, ONCE AGAIN the main reason for us not competing. Williams looked as though he could not be arsed to run until 20 mins from the end, Tiatto was a waste of space and how Joey stayed on the pitch for 90 minutes with that performance I don't know ! The lack of any midfield effort ensured that the game was going to be won by one team and that was obvious after 15 minutes. This results in what we have been watching for so long when the opponents control the middle third, US HOOFING IT aimlessly towards, in this case De Vries who then gets unwarranted stick from idiots who want to find someone to blame for us being outplayed.

De Vries is NOT 100% fit, give him a chance and let's see what he can do after a full pre season.

Give Levein a chance to get the personnel HE wants and then the time over the summer to get HIS players to play the system he wants.

Start getting behind the team instead of barracking players

Support the club and stop moaning.

Good post. Well argued. There's a surprise!

But I couldn't disagree more! No surprise there!

Post of the year

we need to get behind the team not get on their backs. The players and management could just as easily turn round and have a go at the fans for the pathetic excuse of what we call an atmosphere. Maybe if we give them something to play to then they will try. Whether its just shear coincisence but against wolves when the whole ground was singing Craig Leveins Blue and White army for around 5 minutes and the stadium was rocking we played our best football of the game and hammered wolves and its also when maybury scored.

Lets get behind the team! Craig Leviens Blue n White army!!

No they couldn't - the players and management do not have a divine right to a good atmosphere when they play. Yes I agree that the fans at the WS do not create much noise for the players, but the players should never slag the fans off for this. We pay their wages (or at least a percentage of it) and we pay to watch them in action. If we don't like what we see and express our disapproval that is up to us. If ever a manager or player slagged the fans off I would be disgusted - if it wasn't for the fans there would be no club.
