JoeyB Posted 11 December 2008 Posted 11 December 2008 Byrne berates stay-at-home fansSwindon caretaker manager Dave Byrne Byrne is unhappy with some of the comments on internet message boards Swindon caretaker manager Dave Byrne has called some of the club's fans "morons" and "idiots" for their postings on internet forums. The Town boss went out of his way to praise supporters who watched their 1-1 draw with Carlisle at the weekend. But Byrne told BBC Radio Swindon he has no time for fans who comment on what happened without actually being there. "They're making comments on things that they don't see because they're not at the games," he said. 606: DEBATEByrne is not the answer and is definitely not management material, things are no different than under Malpas so a new man needs to come in and sort this team out asap. "Callum Kennedy was taken off at the weekend because he had cramp, and when you get castigated for making that decision from people who weren't even at the game, that makes it very, very difficult to take." Swindon have conceded last-minute goals in their last four games, dropping six points and all but ending Byrne's hopes of making his position permanent. Great way to gain respect from your fans - especially as he is caretaker boss. Makes me wonder if Big Nige reads this forum. Nige if you there keep up the good work
Hullfox Posted 11 December 2008 Posted 11 December 2008 At least he talks sense. Every club has fans that talk bollocks.
Head Honcho Posted 11 December 2008 Posted 11 December 2008 At least he talks sense.Every club has fans that talk bollocks. Is that from personal experience?
Hullfox Posted 11 December 2008 Posted 11 December 2008 Is that from personal experience? You make up your own mind on that.
The People's Hero Posted 11 December 2008 Posted 11 December 2008 I talk complete bollocks and I'm not afraid to admit it. I embrace it.
Thracian Posted 11 December 2008 Posted 11 December 2008 "Callum Kennedy was taken off at the weekend because he had cramp, and when you get castigated for making that decision from people who weren't even at the game, that makes it very, very difficult to take."Swindon have conceded last-minute goals in their last four games, dropping six points and all but ending Byrne's hopes of making his position permanent. Nige if you there keep up the good work So what he's saying is that all those kids, old folk and others in hospital, all those fans who have to work, all those followers with other responsibilities on match day shouldn't get caught up in the match-day emotion and, based on what a professional observer has said, pass their own comment. I wouldn't mind quite so much if there was any evidence that people who actually attend the games see the same incident in the same way, but they don't. Truth to tell some of them aren't even looking all the time. Even with the Howard was-it-a-penalty incident against Southend, some think he was in the box, some think he was not. The referee himself, not many yards away from the incident, didn't seem to notice a blatant back-pass to the goalkeeper. So what a load of bollocks. Seems to me the "pictures" given on the radio can be just as clear as the pictures seen by some who are at the ground. And if people sitting at home want to comment, why not? Why shouldn't they feel involved. If I was lying in some cancer ward with sod all else to do I might need to feel involved, not just want to be. As for the Callum Kennedy incident people who watch the game itself make uninformed comments about substitutions just the same as those listening on the radio. Again, so what? If the club don't take the trouble to keep fans informed of what's going on, and why, so what do they expect? Football itself is about the moment. It's an emotional roller-coaster based on the minute - not on informed debate afterwards. And all that comment and reaction keeps the game in the public eye and makes television companies spend huge amounts of money being involved. The Swindon caretaker would be better focused on trying to make a name for himself instead of getting involved in asides with the fans. They'll be there long after he's forgotten by the sounds of things.
Hullfox Posted 11 December 2008 Posted 11 December 2008 I really wish more managers would be publically outspoken about the crap that some idiots spout about the game.
dandannieldanok Posted 11 December 2008 Posted 11 December 2008 I really wish more managers would be publically outspoken about the crap that some idiots spout about the game. Maybe, but in this case calling them "morons" and "idiots" is not going to help anyone, he's just driving people away.
Lovejoy Posted 11 December 2008 Posted 11 December 2008 Most fans talk bollocks, but fans that have bollocks opinions on games they didn't even see are knob jockeys. He's spot on. After all, there are people on here who talk about the game they've heard through Ian Stringer, and actually argue points based on what they've heard on the wireless . Tbh though, he should really ignore internet forums .
Lovejoy Posted 11 December 2008 Posted 11 December 2008 Maybe, but in this case calling them "morons" and "idiots" is not going to help anyone, he's just driving people away. But they weren't/aren't there in the first place .
davieG Posted 11 December 2008 Posted 11 December 2008 Would he be calling those same fans morons if they were calling for him to be made permanent if he'd had a string of wins that they hadn't seen - It does happen.
Darkzzz_ Posted 11 December 2008 Posted 11 December 2008 I think he is spot on also. I can't make every game due to work, etc. When I am not able to make a game I rely on highlights, match reports and some of the more knowledgeable posters here. I would only give my opinion on things I see. Some of us can't do every game unfortunately.
