thommo2 Posted 19 April 2005 Posted 19 April 2005 I have only just got back from a years snowboarding, so not had a season ticket this year. Been to the last few games and could not beleive how bad That Mark De Vries is. What a pile of S***. I hope with time he will get better and it might just be a confidence thing but I dont think even big trev or adi was as bad as him. No fight no commitment. As for Connelly the talent is there but he should take a leaf out of dickov's book and do some work. Its like watching a Dickov thats not quite made it, which is pretty sad cuz he's no star. We need help and fast
Random Burglar Posted 19 April 2005 Posted 19 April 2005 From what iv heard has been same all season mate!!
Frenzied Posted 19 April 2005 Posted 19 April 2005 I think De Vries has some good qualities. He's get great control and can turn players well for a big man. However, he can't jump and looks clumsy at times. He needs to work on his heading. But, as per usual certain sections of our support at games have turned on him - this will not help his confidence and strikers thrive on that. The man needs a chance. It utterly infuriates me when sections of our crowd who clearly have never played the game and know little of how to play it needlessly attack members of our team at matches. De Vries is a far better footballer than either Akinbiyi or Benjamin, who were both good athletes but completely brainless as players.
BartonFox Posted 19 April 2005 Posted 19 April 2005 We have struggled to score goals all season and when he was signed it was assumed he would be the answer to our prayers for this season. Well he isn't and a large portion of that is due to the fact he is still injured and didn't have a full pre-season behind him. CL bought him in January so he was ours and ours for the next 3 years. What is irritating is Levein's insistance on playing him while he is unfit, it is doing him no good whatsoever and that is why there are sections of our support on his back. MdV will be a totally different player at the start of next season when he has had a good preseason and CL has brought in the type of players who can provide opportunities for him.
kenny Posted 19 April 2005 Posted 19 April 2005 It was also wrongly assumed by most people (myself inclusive) that he would be a big target man type striker that would win headers etc. Generally replace Deane/Ferdinand, however he is not that player and needs to have the ball played on the floor more than in the air.
Random Burglar Posted 19 April 2005 Posted 19 April 2005 Or did we assume straight away he would be a Heskey type figure? Hes a good lad and needs still to gel with the rest of the team which admittedly CL hasnt been able to do as he has found it difficult get a regualr team out each week with new players coming in and injuries etc.

I think Frenzied has outlined what MDV is all about. He clearly has an excellent first touch, and has quick feet for such a tall player. What a lot of people tend to forget is that MDV was injured for almost half of the season before joining the club. I'm not impressed with his current performances, however, I do believe he'll become a useful player for us next season, if he gets a good pre season under his belt.
themoralkiosk Posted 19 April 2005 Posted 19 April 2005 I reckon 'Deep Freeze' will thaw out over the summer and come good next season - he shows good touches but is just lacking confidence and motivation which is where CL needs to step in.... apologies for the shocking play on words!
Ric Flair Posted 19 April 2005 Posted 19 April 2005 Big Dave needs goals fast though to get his confidence back up. He doesn't even many chances in a match. It's not like Akinbiyi who would miss 5 or 6 a match, De Vries has probably only had 5 shots in his whole Leicester career. Whether that's his fault or the players around him i'm not sure, but our strikers are having naff all service it seems. He should be put out of his misery and given a rest.

If you pepper the goal one will get through to CONNED and MARK DEJECTED
Sir Fynwy Posted 19 April 2005 Posted 19 April 2005 'we dont want DeVries back, i always thought he was only good for the odd game or two, he cost us possession due to his persistent fouling, we hope to complete the signing of Lee Miller from Bristol ( i think ) and he looks the real deal with 10 goals since end of Jan. Alan Maybury is a good player though and Paddy Kisnorbo is very good so you should have a sound defence/midfield if nothing else next year. I hear that Kevin McKenna maybe on his way at the end of the season to Leicester, again very good player both in defence where he plays most but also in attack ( scored a few for Hearts and Canada when played up front )' Quote from one of my customesr who is a Hearts season ticket holder. Does KK sound a bit like Walshy?
evs_the_fox Posted 19 April 2005 Posted 19 April 2005 iv not read all of the replies, im at work and busy! but i reckon hes pretty shite and certainlynot the answer. hes about 2 stone overweight and so cannot run at all. for a bloke his size, or any size for that matter, hes shit in the air and his first touch is erratic at best. start with moore tonight, he aint gonas do owt worse! oh and to the person that started this thread, connolly lazy? you what?
TornadoShaunUK Posted 19 April 2005 Posted 19 April 2005 De Vries has been awful this season. I dont see the point in bringing Moore in on loan if we arent going to use the guy.. start him for the rest of the season and bring de vries on towards the end of matches perhaps. Rather than the other way round. Failing that, atleast stick Dion upfront with Conolly, Dion is our best player in the air, just because hes upfront doesnt mean he cant come back and defend if need be, thats practically what we do when defending corners lately anyway.. and even then with everyone back we cant get it right... =/ As for Conolly himself, I like him, although nearly all of his recent goals have been from the penalty spot his general play seems very good. Intelligent player, Id say he could be better than Dickov if he can just get himself in the right positions and maybe even be prepared to take half chances aswell when they come along. I think De Vries needs to learn to head the ball before he can be any use to us to be honest, its easily his worst attribute. We see flashes of decent De Vries moments so the potential is there but there is something missing.. Im not our manager, I dont know what it is really, Levein knows him better than most players at the club so it puzzles me as to why De Vries is having such a bad season..
thommo2 Posted 19 April 2005 Author Posted 19 April 2005 Thats why hes just not as good as dickov there work rates not there, and dont get me wrong he is probably far more skillfull than him. A player of his socal ability should be getting those half chances and getting into positions but he dosen't. I dont want to dwel on the past but connelly could be as good as he was for us just needs to up his work rate, dickov is one of the only players that I have seen in the last ten years that can have a complete shocker and you still know he has given 100% and you cant critisize him. Just think dc should take a leaf out of his book. Ive not seen much of him this season due to being away but from what I have seen he is lazy and lacks commitment. I may be wrong, hope he will prove me wrong tonight
TornadoShaunUK Posted 19 April 2005 Posted 19 April 2005 David Conolly is his own player, he is not Paul Dickov. Dickov is all about hard grit and high workrate, like I said, I see David Conolly as more of an intelligent skillfull player than Dickov. I hate how we compare our current team to past players anyway.. we are becoming like Forest, living in the past.. Paul Dickov this, Muzzy Izzet that.. =/ The team we have at the moment I think has some great potential and we have had an absolutely poor excuse for a season, both during Mickey Adams reign, and after he left... I think things will come for this squad. Craig has made a lot of new signings this season and all have been signings for the future, we are playing with a team that hasnt been together as a unit for any great length of time, some players have only been here a few months, Craig Levein is obviously yet to find the right formation for us and is still finding his feet in the English leagues. I think when everything clicks things will be ok, and I dont think we will see the best of Leicester City until the season after next. We just have to make sure we avoid relegation this year, I think we'll do it, I think we will finish maybe 2 points above the drop zone. If we do drop, it could be very bad, we may say we'll be right back up but we said that last season and it hasnt happened. We need to stop the rot while we can by keeping our place in this league for next season. Fear not people - Im confident things will come good eventually. Its ok some people on here saying we had better results under Adams etc but we have to remember it was Adams himself that wanted to leave, we didnt kick him out, besides Adams himself hasnt had the greatest of times since joining Coventry. Mickey Adams is not our manager anymore, thats in the past again. Final note - 3 pts against Cardiff tonight please although personally I wouldnt mind a draw... Cardiff - 1 pt Sunderland - 0 pts Derby - 0 pts Leeds - 3 pts Plymouth - 3 pts I have a feeling thats what we'll get, and that would be plenty good enough to keep us up.. nothing like leaving it til the last minute eh
dave_binos Posted 19 April 2005 Posted 19 April 2005 Give the guy a ****ing chance guys, pretty confident he will be good once he gets a good pre-season behind him. It REALLY is pretty pointless having a million topics on the guy just slating him.

MC Prussian Posted 20 April 2005 Posted 20 April 2005 I haven't seen DeVries play since he was transferred from Hearts some months ago. As usual, I'd wait until the end of the season before I judge a football player. If he should score some more for us (which he does can), I'd keep him. If not, sell him.
