Illegal downloading is killing music!

Recommended Posts

I just got a royalties statement from the Performing Rights Society

For the first time ever I received royalties from iTunes

4 Tracks that I co-wrote have been purchased / downloaded through iTunes :punk:

  1. Total downloads 3 - My royalties (25% share) - £0.01
  2. Total downloads 3 - My royalties (12.5% share) - £0.01
  3. Total downloads 3 - My royalties (25% share) - £0.01
  4. Total downloads 3 - My royalties (12.5% share) - £0.00

So there you go a total of 12 downloads and a total royalty payment of £0.03

I can see why fúckers like Metallicúnt get so upset about the royalties they lose to illegal downloads

I don't think illegal downloading is killing music. It has stopped some people earning enough money from it but as for the music, there will always be venues for bands to play in and there will always be plenty of people wanting to watch and listen.

The downloading will certainly make it harder to make any decent money though unless you are world famous (and 90% of world famous bands are crap anyway if you ask me and don't deserve the cash as much as the more quality less-known bands).

I don't think Deathside was being serious...

downloading music has introduced me to loads of artists, who's material i've gone on to purchase. Metalica are selfish morons when it comes to this debate imo. Plenty of bands (much smaller than them!) give music away free or very cheaply and get by. Just reaching people and getting exposure should be the most rewarding thing (cue violins). nice work getting stuff on itunes/getting downloads etc btw!
