dandannieldanok Posted 18 December 2008 Posted 18 December 2008 I was browsing the BBC and looking at some old articles about Sam Allardyce when I stumbled across a match report from 2001 when we got beat 4-1 by Liverpool at Filbert Street. I do remember going to this game and I can visualise the chance the article refers to when Akinbiyi blazed over the bar when one-on-one, but I cannot remember anyone actually throwing programmes at him. Can anyone confirm if this happened? Part of the article: Shell-shocked Leicester, beaten 6-0 by Leeds in their last home game, managed a response of sorts as Ade Akinbiyi was given the chance of salvaging something from the wreckage in a one-on-one with Liverpool keeper Jerzy Dudek. Instead, his woeful shot over the top of the crossbar only served to compound the misery. The Filbert Street fans booed and threw their programmes at the hapless striker.
jayyd08 Posted 18 December 2008 Posted 18 December 2008 i was 10 and faintly remember the match, but i carnt remember that ..
dandannieldanok Posted 18 December 2008 Author Posted 18 December 2008 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7IMtDwQzP9k 1:20 and 1:40 are from the game. The first miss which is brought up in the article is absolutely woeful!
Stuliasz Posted 18 December 2008 Posted 18 December 2008 I remember that game clearly. There was a goalscoring masterclass from Robbie Fowler including a very sweet volley if I remember correctly. Ade however managed to miss three absolute on a plate sitters. I didn't agree with the crowd booing him however and I still don't to this day. Can't remember any programme throwing though.
Corky Posted 18 December 2008 Posted 18 December 2008 I can't remember anyone throwing programmes. I can remember all of the misses though. The first was horrendous, we were 2-0 behind (and this chance was after 15 minutes or so), Dean Sturridge played a lovely dummy and Akinbiyi took a touch and blazed well wide. Another one hit a sign on the roof of the corner of the East/North stands, and the last one, he was about five yards out and screwed it over the bar. That was his nadir of a truly awful season. His performance the season before was brillaint, definitely no programmes thrown then
CosbehFox Posted 18 December 2008 Posted 18 December 2008 Akinbiyi -3 Liverpool 4 I don't think I ever seen Ade hit one from outside the 18 yard box. Every goal he scored (he had a decent first season really) was in the six yard box.
ASH17LCFC Posted 18 December 2008 Posted 18 December 2008 Was at that game, He didn't deserve to be booed ... Deserve to be shot. Worst striker in our history, though to be fair DJ is trying to win that. Dennis Wise score a beauty of a header that game ...
Mickey O'Neil Posted 19 December 2008 Posted 19 December 2008 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7IMtDwQzP9k1:20 and 1:40 are from the game. The first miss which is brought up in the article is absolutely woeful! Jeezus...the worst ones were in a City shirt!
Sods Posted 19 December 2008 Posted 19 December 2008 Hahaha. I actually can rememeber program throwing, not intentionally for Ade. But for the whole team, I also remember some shite being made into paper aeroplanes during the Bolton game. Mental.
lildave3 Posted 19 December 2008 Posted 19 December 2008 The free Zoo magazines being hurled onto the pitch against Villa was the best. Especially because the following week, the club apologised for giving away magazines with 'Adult content'

But for the whole team, I also remember some shite being made into paper aeroplanes during the Bolton game. Mental. Before the Bolton game the club gave out free "Goal" placards for when we scored. Oh dear The free Zoo magazines being hurled onto the pitch against Villa was the best.Especially because the following week, the club apologised for giving away magazines with 'Adult content' I remember programmes being thrown in the Aston Villa match. It was after the fifth goal went in.
Narborough Bod Posted 19 December 2008 Posted 19 December 2008 Did anyone go to Peter Taylor's last game, away at Charlton. They had a bloke sent off and the wholwe of their main stand launched their programs onto the pitch. Both bizarre and entertaining.
