Silverstone will host the British MotoGP from 2010 after signing a five-year deal to stage the event.

The Northamptonshire track replaces Donington as the race venue.

"It is rich in heritage and unrivalled in terms of what it offers fans, teams and championships," said the venue's managing director Richard Phillips.

"We are sure MotoGP's UK visits will continue to be successful when we go to Silverstone," said Carmelo Ezpeleta, head of the sport's promoters Dorna.

Since 1987 Silverstone has been home to the British Formula One Grand Prix, but in July 2008 it was revealed that the race would be relocating to Donington from 2010 on a 10-year deal.

"We have worked closely with Dorna Sports to bring MotoGP to Silverstone and both parties are extremely excited about the opportunity to take this world-class event to another level," added Phillips.

"The Grand Prix circuit offers a combination of high speed straights and technical corners, presenting a real challenge to the riders, while the facilities for teams and spectators are second to none.

"The circuit is also recognised as being one of the most easily accessible in the world.

"All of these factors, along with Silverstone's vast experience of hosting world class international events, contributed to MotoGP coming to Silverstone."

Basically the Moto Gp has gone to Silversone  , and the world superbikes have moved from brands Hatch to Donington :chant:

I'll be very surprised if Donington is ready for F1 in 2010.

I fear that also but apparently its on course now planning has been passed

Donington has allready started the work. Donington might suprise people by actually pulling this off. When they had to build the new pits for the Moto Gp last year they made a good job of it. The problem is going to be the traffic.

Yeah but the thing is, it wouldn't be so bad if they dual-carriageway'd the loop of the A453 and stuck on a connection (even single carriageway) to the A50 to split all the northern traffic off. Doable, but rather pricey. Still have to improve the entry to the car park, but I think they're at least doing that for the revamp.

this is shit.

WSBK and F1 at Donnington, the bikes at Donnington were great, fantastic. But with adding cages etc in, it is going to ruin Donnigton to watch bikes. This could be the end of Donners. And Motogp going to Silverstone, not a big fan of, couldnt they have kept it normal? AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHH!

The main problem with silverstone is the mickey mouse chicane before the start/finish line. however, silverstone may produce closer racing - they do tend to spread out quickly at donnington.

incidently isaidno, i note the racesafe logo, are you a marshall? i was a founder member of racesafe and did all gps and superbikes untill 4 years ago. now concentrate on club meetings - you get paid!!!

I've been a Racesafe Marshall for 5 seasons now, but they have lost the rights to the Grand prix and WSB which has gone to the ACU. Still do the British superbikes for them.

I've got my acu licence and may apply for the gp, but club racings more fun with the right clubs (North Gloucs, derby phoenix etc) more races and almost as quick as bsb. May see you around one of these days

I was told that they couldn't justify making such costly road alterations when the problem only occurs for three days in a year.

I've just been on the MCN (Motorcycle News) website and they have a video clip of how the new circuit will look....just like any other F1 circuit! Fcuking great gravel traps, barriers and spectator viewing as far back from the action as possible.

One good thing about Donnington was the in-field. It offers an excellent view of the majority of the track.

Silverstone has none of this. The best viewpoint has always been the complex (old Luffield corners). Other than this part of the track, you can see cock all.

Moto GP will die on it's arse at Silverstone and F1 will ruin Donnington  .

Bloody hell man.

Donno is horrendous when the bikes on, with the F1 its goes to be terrible.

The airport will end up closing down as everyone will be delayed.

All be it, i might rent my street out for parking and give people a lift up......

It's not just F1. Other forms of four wheeled motorsport will be attracted as well, in order to pay for the expensive revamps.

It's going to be hell.

They will have to do something about the road infrastructure. Silverstone were forced to implement a full dual carriageway system in and out of the place, just to keep F1.

Your parking idea could prove very lucrative.

The British F3 championship's annual visit to Donington Park has been postponed due to ongoing issues with the circuit's track licence.

The UK's motor racing governing body - the Motor Sports Association - has yet to grant the Leicestershire venue a licence to hold race meetings in 2009, because of safety concerns over construction work for the British Grand Prix in 2010, and AUTOSPORT understands the circuit is unlikely to obtain that licence before British F3's planned visit on April 25/26.

The building of an access tunnel has dramatically reduced the run-off on either side of the track between McLeans and Coppice, and the MSA has requested work to be done to make the area safe for racing before granting Donington its licence.

Donington is turning into a farce. The building work has made the track unsafe to race on :giggle:

The second round of the 2011 World Superbike Championship will go ahead as planned at Donington Park after the circuit received its official homologation from the FIM.

The circuit has not hosted a world championship event since 2009 following the fall-out of its failed F1 British Grand Prix acquisition, but a series of updates will see it return to the international fold later this month.

With the final circuit inspection occurring on February 25th, it was confirmed that Donington Park is now in line with other top European, Middle Easter and Asian circuits in terms of safety standards.

Just one day before the inspection, Donington Park opened its doors for the first No Limits track day of the year. Over 200 motorcyclists enjoyed a day of riding in the early spring sunshine and with positive feedback from everyone involved, the venue is now looking ahead to the arrival of the World Superbike contingent.

“Hearing the sound of motorcycles on the track again really was something special,” says Donington Park Racing’s Chairman Kevin Wheatcroft. “The whole team deserves appreciation for their hard work in getting to this point. With the time lost due to bad weather over the winter, the major effort has had to focus on restoring and preparing the track itself to meet FIM regulations and bring World Superbikes back.

“We’re now working round the clock to have facilities ready in time for SBK and fans will see many positive changes, although inevitably because of the earlier delays some planned improvements will not be complete in time. I’d like to thank fans in advance for their ongoing patience and support of Donington Park and hope they are able to enjoy the spectator experience of world-class racing on the revamped track.”

Donington Park’s focus on creating a positive experience for the fans includes new and improved spectator areas, specifically at Redgate Corner and Hollywood bank. A new section of the infield will be open to the public, accessed via the Esses Tunnel and allowing fans to watch the racing from Redgate, Hollywood, Craner Curves, the Old Hairpin and right up to McLeans.

Access into the circuit has been greatly improved with the addition of a new main entrance near the Exhibition Centre at gate 20, allowed by the removal of the railway carriage. Five permanent WC blocks will be completely revamped in time for World Superbikes with new fittings and lighting to greatly improve the standard of the facilities.

The reconstruction of the paddock area – including the removal of Redgate Lodge – has created extra space that will be allocated to trade stands, in addition to the usual trade stands in the infield area. Catering will be improved with the creation of a food village offering a wider variety of cuisine. For campers, Donington Park Racing has employed the service of a new security team to offer a more safe and secure camping area.

With all the above in place – and further improvements in the immediate pipeline – racing fans can once again enjoy the prestigious events in the 2011 calendar at the heart of British motorsport.

The WSBK round will take place on 25-27 March.

Great news.
