Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks is understood be in talks with Kuwait billionaire, Nasser Al-Kharafi over a possible Anfield takeover.

Meetings have taken place in London between aides of the tycoon, who has an estimated £9bn fortune, and Hicks' representatives, reports claim.

Hicks and his co-owner George Gillet are valuing the club at around £550m.

The American duo's reign has been dogged by controversy since their £218m takeover in February 2007.

The Arab tycoon who led the takeover of Manchester City has revealed that he and a group of German investors are considering a bid to buy Chelsea.

Blues owner and Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has insisted that the London club is not for sale.

But Dr Sulaiman al-Fahim said: "It would not be cheap... but through a number of investors, there is money available to put together a deal."

Abramovich has invested around £600m in Chelsea since taking over in July 2003.

Goodbye English football.

I think it disappeared a long while ago.

That was my dig, goodbye to the tiny bit that is left.

Not a fan of Milan Mandarić then?

No I want to blast his brains out.

fooking hell, it's good work if you can get it. Buy football club. Invest fook all of your own money into it, use 300 million pound loan taken out on the club. Win absolutely nothing. Realise you can't afford to pay back that loan, sell to a Kuwaiti billionaire. Make 332 million pounds profit.

Fairplay Liverpool and Chelsea. Now all the players will want to sign for them instead of them twats at Eastlands.

I don't want arabian for charmain of Liverpool, because it'll be hilarious. And also, I think that English government should make a law about this problem with foreign charmains. It'll be better for English football and his magic.

Football has long sold its soul to the highest bidder, any pretence of a fair competition has disappeared.

Much of the romance of football is being eroded too and I firmly believe it will all end in tears for English-born players and for the game in this country eventually. Perhaps sooner rather than later.

I agree, so many coming into buying clubs thinking they will make money but all they do is put the club at more risk but at same time pumps up transfer fees and player wages to the point where the smaller clubs have to start taking risks and if any of them go down like charlton did and then if you not go straight back up there is only one way it seems and thats down, won't be long before a team thats been in the premier league goes out buisness
