purpleronnie Posted 11 February 2009 Posted 11 February 2009 Taken from the mirror:- --------------------- Parking fine stress earns motorist £20,000 compensation payout A motorist was awarded £20,000 after claiming parking fines caused him emotional distress. Z-Un Noon got four £50 parking tickets but refused to pay and sued the council for damages over stress. But when Newham council failed to turn up at the hearing he was given damages by default – £5,000 for each ticket. And after they failed to show a second time – at the High Court – bailiffs went to the council offices in East Ham, East London. The council, which said it never got the summons, paid the fine after bailiffs tried to take their server. Bow county court finally ordered Z-Un, of Tower Hamlets, to pay the money back plus £7,500 costs – but he claimed he has spent it. Newham council said last night his actions were “an abuse of the legal system”, adding: “We will pursue outstanding fines.” ------------------ Seems the council have better things to do, maybe investing all our money in foreign bank accounts?
hairy Posted 11 February 2009 Posted 11 February 2009 I am beginning to hate this country more and more.
cisono Posted 11 February 2009 Posted 11 February 2009 If I were the motorist, I would gracefully pay the 4x £50 fines. After all, the £20,000 cover them pretty well. Seems the council have better things to do, maybe investing all our money in foreign bank accounts? Or maybe trying to recover that money invested in foreign bank accounts...
fox123 Posted 11 February 2009 Posted 11 February 2009 I parked in the Aldi car park once and went into the Dupali restaurant (In Blaby) didn't realise you could only park there for an hour and half. Was parked up for an hour and forty minutes...few days later get a £75 fine! Robbing bastards!
Alexikokopops Posted 11 February 2009 Posted 11 February 2009 I am beginning to hate this country more and more. Why? He has to pay it back plus costs.
hairy Posted 11 February 2009 Posted 11 February 2009 Why? He has to pay it back plus costs. The fact that he even got the damages in the first place. Now he is working the system again by saying he has spent it.

My understanding is that they can fine you for parking there for any length of time, unless you are actively shopping at that shopping centre. As this is a bit difficult to prove (although a till receipt would help), they probably use the one and a half hour rule instead...

I was having a ticket written out for me whilst parked illegally, just drove off and ignored traffic warden never heard anything about it. was told that they have to put it onto your car for the fine to be valid. You think youve been robbed. I parked in a pub car park for five minutes to pop into the bank not knowing a clamper was watching my every move and came out to see her clamping me. If it wasn't a female I don't know if I could have been held responsible for my actions. It was a 60 quid fine or so for a five minute mistake. No justice at all.

I saw a programme about clamping once and it's not really governed by anybody so they can just wait around and catch you completely off guard, buggers!
Lovejoy Posted 11 February 2009 Posted 11 February 2009 'kin hell. What a joke, just takes the p1ss .

Yes was by post the fuckers had it timed on their security camera.

I also saw that, the system is a joke. The clamper also said it wouldn't be in my interests complaining as she told me I would have to write to a silly po box addressee which they have no right to reply to my letter. Basically they don't give a shit and I wouldn't hear anything from them. Yes was by post the fuckers had it timed on their security camera. Oh right I think if they have camera evidence they can legally still do you. Bastards
cisono Posted 11 February 2009 Posted 11 February 2009 I got fined one Friday morning at 8am. When I got home from work the evening before (it was already 9:30pm), there was no parking whatsoever, so I parked in the only half spot I could find, off the main road but half on double yellows, intending to come out again when the pub crowd and restaurant crowd had left and re-park properly. However, I fell asleep "prematurely" and forgot about that. Next day, I drove to Asda, shopped, got back to the car and then noticed a bit yellow sticker on my car. What's that? I had driven around with this thing on my windscreen for miles? I felt really upset. So yes I do think the fine caused me psychological stress. I still don't know what I am supposed to do if there is no parking anywhere around the area where I live. Am I supposed to park miles away? Or park on the main road but come out before 7am to move my car (hoping there is somewhere to move it to)? It is so tempting to just park it on the pavement...
