Owusu-Abeyie arrested

Recommended Posts

An Arsenal player is being questioned after a fight broke out following a football awards ceremony in London.

Dutch striker Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, 19, was arrested after up to five men began brawling outside Cafe Royal on Monday.

Officers were called at about 0300 BST where they found a man with serious head injuries. Police said three men, aged 19, 28 and 35, were being held.

The Professional Footballers' Association Player Awards was held at the nearby Grosvenor House Hotel.

Police said the victim, who is in his mid 20s, is in a stable condition.

Team debut

Bobby Barnes, of the PFA, who attended Sunday night's awards ceremony, said there had been no trouble during the event, which had passed off peacefully.

"It is a prestigious award ceremony. We would not expect there to be any trouble," he said.

A spokeswoman for Arsenal refused to comment.

Owusu-Abeyie joined Arsenal in the summer of 2002 from Dutch club Ajax.

The teenager made his team debut in October 2003 and scored his first senior Arsenal goal against Everton in November last year.
