Fez of Mahrez Posted 25 March 2009 Posted 25 March 2009 I think this is the team that Capello has in mind. You never have your best players available though. That is why it is good to try out different formations, so you can pick the best side given the players available to you. Ideally every player should bring something slightly different to the side. It's what has worked so well for Liverpool this season and in fact for ourselves as well. In Liverpool's front six you have Torres, Gerrard, Kuyt, Alonso, Mascherano and Riera - all possessing a different type of quality. Same went for us when we were doing well earlier this season with Dyer, Davies, King, Oakley, Fryatt and Howard (and indeed Gilbert who fits this idea better than anyone). It makes it easier to adapt to different conditions and opposition while still retaining consistency and togetherness. Unfortunately, as long as the England team continues to be viewed as the Premier League's poor relation I can't ever see England having all their best players in peak condition when it matters.
Flynny Posted 25 March 2009 Posted 25 March 2009 James Johnson - Ferdinand - Terry - ColeCarrickWalcott - Lampard - Lennon Rooney - Heskey Lampard's a much better team man, Gerrard wants the whole team building around him, which isn't going to happen. I go for Lamps internationally any day of the week, though if I had to sign one for a club it'd be Gerrard.
RowlattsFox Posted 25 March 2009 Posted 25 March 2009 ..................Green .....Johnson Ferdinand Terry Cole ...........Lampard Carrick/Barry..... Wright-Phillips.. Gerrard.......Lennon .................Rooney............ If this formation is going to work, then Rooney HAS to stay upfront or atleast near to it at all times else its a waste of time. I don't see the need of having Carrick and Barry playing together, for the majority of games anyway. Not really a fan of Lennon on the left but hes on form at the minute and full of confidence so I'd give him a go. I think we'll play 4-4-2 though with Gerrard playing on the left, didn't we play that in Belarus and Gerrard was excellent.
