teblin Posted 11 May 2009 Posted 11 May 2009 Been mentioned in another thread and on other forums. But its another player we've been linked with and people may not have seen it. Don't know much about him but this is what it says on the southampton site. A compact but tenacious midfielder, Gillett has both the engine and technique to be a force on the field. He may not be the tallest player on the park but makes up for it with his lower-body strength, work-rate and undoubted ability on the ball. His ability to get forward and defend makes him well suited to a midfield berth – as well as his set-piece skills - but his versatility has also proven an asset for the second-string where he has turned in some excellent displays at full-back. He skippered the club’s Under 19’s to the Play-Off title in 2004 but his progress was interrupted in January 2005 by a stress fracture to his left ankle. That restricted him to just a handful more appearances for the reserve and Under 18 sides before the summer as he did not step onto the field again until April. He made his first-team debut as a substitute in the FA Cup tie at Leicester in January 2006 and signed a new two-year contract in May to keep him at the club until June 2008. He spent the first three months of the season on loan at Blackpool before joining Bournemouth on loan. the spiky midfielder then returned to Bloomfield Road and played a major role in helping the Seasiders win promotion to the Coca-Cola Championship via the League 1 play-offs where they beat Yeovil at Wembley. He forced his way back into the Saints squad under Nigel Pearson making two further appearances as substitute and in June 2008 he signed a new two-year contract with an option of a further 12 months. in midfield sound like a type we don't have. could also be cover for full back?
dandannieldanok Posted 11 May 2009 Posted 11 May 2009 Not seen a lot of him but from the snippets I have he seems like a Wesolowski-type midfield, could be a decent singing.
Dan Posted 11 May 2009 Posted 11 May 2009 Quite like the sound of that, just hope hes not as injury prone as Wesolowski
breadandcheesebrother Posted 12 May 2009 Posted 12 May 2009 a friend of mine is a southampton fan. described him as a "pint-sized bulldog, full of running with a tidy pass. he got injured, but either side of it was one of our best players". he actually prefers him to surman and lallana, but because he's not a showboater doesn't get as much exposure. make of that what you will. sounds like a good prospect for centre mid though...

Sounds decent. Hope this happens.
