"We will be looking to bring in four or five players depending on finances and suchlike over the close season and that should give us a good base to work from next season."

Does anyone else think that's not many? I initially thought we'd be looking to get in at least two or three strikers for us to be able score some goals, then theres right wing/left wing, goalkeeper/s

Levein's already said the squad's going to be smaller next season and he's looking for players like Kisnorbo and Sylla that can play a few different roles.

I agree it isn't as many as I thought, but then again there's no point replacing every player that leaves when players like Wilcox, Blake, Gemmill etc couldn't even make the bench.

I'd say we need: 2 goalkeepers, 2 strikers, right winger, left sided player and at least one CB.

The CB could be Kenton, we don't know if Levein is including Kenton in the 4-5 players.

Only 4 according to the Merc.

CRAIG SAYS FOUR NEW FACES IS HIS TARGET

Plymouth Argyle 0 v 0 Leicester City

Leicester boss Craig Levein announced plans to bring in four new faces over the summer after a goalless draw at Plymouth brought about a dour end to a difficult season.

Levein announced on Friday that six of the club's top earners would be released, with former England goalkeeper Ian Walker among them.

Nikos Dabizas, Scot Gemmill, Lilian Nalis, Keith Gillespie and Nathan Blake have also been shown the door, leaving the Foxes shorn of considerable experience but with a much reduced wage bill.

"This has been the end of a difficult week having to release so many experienced players for purely financial reasons," said Levein.

"I have seen a lot of players that have done well for us leave - but that's football and we'll move on and bring players in during the summer.

"Hopefully we will have everybody in place before pre-season and we can work together and get a good pre-season under our belt.

"Hopefully we will be bringing another four in."

I think 4 will be tops because of the financial situation.

imo we will need a keeper, a centre back, a right sided midfield/winger and a striker.

the way out of this league is to score 70-80 goals a season and i don't think our current strikers are capable of that.

the only way there will be many more will be if he sells player and who is likely to buy any?

real quandry will be if someone offers 1million + for hughes.

the 4 new players does not include kisnorbo or sturm(is he definite??)

My dad seems to think that we've cut the wage bill by £70,000 a week from the 6 players being released. If so that means roughly £3.5 million a year in wages has been gone!

HOPEFULLY!

I think next week Levein will tell Scowcroft, Wilcox and Hirschfeld that they're not getting new contracts. On top of that I think it very likely that he'll sell/release Logan, Canero, Morris (if possible), Heath, Wright and O'Grady. That means filling the positions next season will be:

GKs: ???

CBs: McCarthy, Stearman, Dublin

LBs: Stewart, Tiatto, Maybury, Sheehan

RBs: Maybury, Stearman

CMs: Hughes, Gudjonsson, Williams, Kisnorbo, Dawson, Tiatto

LWs: Tiatto, Stewart

RWs: ???

STs: Connolly, de Vries, Sturm, Dublin

To me this clearly shows we need 2 goalkeepers, at least 1 CB, maybe more, if we got Kenton that could solve the RB problem as well, CM looks solid enough but if Kisnorbo doesn't work out we're still going to need that sitting midfielder. The wings look very bare, especially the right wing! So that's an area that needs addressing. And up front de Vries and Dublin don't score regularly, Sturm is an unknown so he might blast onto the scene with 20 goals or he might spend all his time coming on as a 10 minute sub. So we need another good striker, as do most teams of course...
