CosbehFox Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 They wont say if the public are even going to be allowed to use it yet! Going off similar projects, the public have been allowed but at a massive increase on the prices. As for location, as the city builds up. Area within the inner ring-road is going to become increasingly difficult. I have just had enough of everyone knocking Leicester, alright it's not brilliant.
Ultra Posted 5 August 2009 Author Posted 5 August 2009 fair enough, but it's a far cry from being a public venue... and even then for a city of leicester's size it's still a pretty poor show...hopefully, if the speedway is succesful it might promote some more investment in leicester's sports facilities..... I believe De Montfort Uni is already on that particular case...
davieG Posted 26 October 2009 Posted 26 October 2009 Work to start tomorrow. http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/news...il/article.html
Floating Fox Posted 26 October 2009 Posted 26 October 2009 sweet! Love a bit of speedway....Will we stay as Leicester Lions? And we won't start in the premier division either!!

CosbehFox Posted 27 October 2009 Posted 27 October 2009 sweet! Love a bit of speedway....Will we stay as Leicester Lions? And we won't start in the premier division either!! Leicester Lions. The Premier Division is the second tier and currently in the league in the best shape.
CosbehFox Posted 16 November 2009 Posted 16 November 2009 Just been accepted into the Premier League and promoters will be revealed on Saturday. It's great just seeing us listed in the draws for the competitions.
Lillehamring Posted 16 November 2009 Posted 16 November 2009 has anybody got any renders of what the stadium will look like.... i really hope they do it in a modernist style, but i'm sure it'll look like a inner city health centr from the 80s ahh.... plan here's what it used to look like, not that great either....
Lillehamring Posted 16 November 2009 Posted 16 November 2009 ok, i found this: Article what i don't get, and i'm guessing it's money and the council's lack of support, but isn't this yet another case of leicester replacing like for like... wouldn't the money have been better spent converting saff lane into a speedway track and covering the velodrome... surely this new, uncovered velodrome is going to have the same shortcomings as the old one
CosbehFox Posted 16 November 2009 Posted 16 November 2009 Looking forward to us vs Posh Sadly, Cov and Posh are in the Elite. Our local derby will be Brum next season. That's not the Speedway stadium, V. You're best bet is leafing through the planning permission database on LCC's site. The Speedway Stadium probably won't even have a building this year. And currently, it's the only construction ongoing on site. Council didn't want Speedway at Saffron Lane cos of a) noise b) they have sold the land off for flats.

Arkie Bennett Posted 28 November 2009 Posted 28 November 2009 It's being constructed from scratch in a completely open space, so I wouldn't expect anything but basic facilities for a year or two. The main thing is to get a decent track in place with satisfactory temporary facilities for the spectators. I'm just happy that speedway is finally coming back, and with Sam Ermolenko involved I am confident it will be a huge success.
davieG Posted 15 December 2009 Posted 15 December 2009 League speedway will not be returning to the city in the new year because a £4.5m stadium development has been hit by delays. The reformed Leicester Lions had been set to ride back into action after 27 years in the wilderness in March after its application to join the British Premier League was accepted. But the project has been dealt a blow because delays to the building of a stadium, in Beaumont Leys, mean it will now not be ready in time. It is still hoped some form of speedway will run at the complex next year. Beaumont Sports Complex (BSC), the company set up to oversee the project, said it hoped to run up to eight exhibition races to prepare for Leicester Lions' return to the league in 2011. The Bennion Road complex will also incorporate a cycling velodrome and 12 five-a-side football pitches. BSC said discussions between Leicester Speedway and the two organisations which will run cycling and football at the venue were taking longer than originally anticipated. The three need to sign up to sharing the stadium before the city council can sign the lease over to BSC. That will pave the way for building work to start. A spokesman for BSC described the negotiations as "complex", but said it was hopeful they would be completed "in the very near future." The identities of the other two organisations are not being made public until they have formally signed up. Work on the speedway track is expected to take three months to complete. Attention will then switch to the football pitches before the project is completed with the construction of the velodrome. Lions promoter David Hemsley said: "We want to make sure everything is in place before the Lions start competing again. "We are fully committed to the new stadium and work will start in the new year with everything completed by late summer." Leicester Speedway Supporters' Club said no longer having a March deadline could help the Lions come back even stronger because it would have more time to sign up top riders. Chairman Ken Naylor said: "We've waited 27 years so one more isn't going to make a huge difference."

CosbehFox Posted 15 December 2009 Posted 15 December 2009 Werent any delays pulling the P & T down though Don't think the blame can be put on the council's door on this one. The legalities of sorting out a lease involving three seperate parties ensuring they are all protected within their own interests is proving to be a bit problematic. The track/stadium would have simply been a track in a field and all the quality riders were being signed up. So it's probably for the better....if the money's there in a year's time.

CosbehFox Posted 15 December 2009 Posted 15 December 2009 I didnt blame the council merely pointed out there were no delays in pulling down the P & T But the site where the P&T stood, there is only one concerned party.....so I can't see the relevance in comparing the two projects.

I was being ironic.... when its something thats for the good of the general public theres delays... when its of no benefit to me and mine whatsoever, there isnt. Might not be relevant to you, its relevant to me
