Frenzied Posted 9 May 2005 Posted 9 May 2005 Wondering if anyone can remember the first ever electronic scoreboard we had at Filbert Street - it was hilarious. Almost week-in-week-out it would get the score, time and players names wrong, hence the name scorbod. At times it would just be shut down altogether.
Knighton Matt Posted 9 May 2005 Posted 9 May 2005 the scoreflashes were classic though. felt sorry for the poor buggers sitting in the east stand who didn't have a clue what everyone else was cheering about though!
Frenzied Posted 9 May 2005 Author Posted 9 May 2005 Yeah, I always thought it was a bit unfair on them. Didn't it get moved to the family stand after a while - can't quite remember?
The Man With The Golden Grahams Posted 9 May 2005 Posted 9 May 2005 Didn't it get moved to the family stand after a while - can't quite remember? 105442 Yeah they put a brand new one up above the Family Enclosure. That was always on the blink too and spent half the time doing birthday announcements. Ahh, memories...
Katy Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 Bless - I loved that scoreboard - in the very early 90s it used to have an animated 'man' taking a free kick when we got a free kick etc etc - I also loved the huge intake of breath from everyone when SCOREFLASH came up throughout the game. Oh happy days
Fez of Mahrez Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 The old one was ace. I liked the dancing men when we scored a goal. The new one was rubbish. Remember going to the Shitty Ground once and they played ads on the scoreboard throughout the game. Ended up watching the ads instead as we lost 4-0.
Craig Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 We get scoreflashes on our current scoreboards, but we haven't needed them recently. But yeah, that was probably the best scoreboard in the world
Katy Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 105900 Could have sworn the one im thinking of was different to that - It was smaller and shoved on the east stand. That was the one that came after I think (its ok im talking to myself)

But the score flashes.....
FoxInTheSnow Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 i gained sevreal injuries in my youth by my mum elbowing me in the ribs everytime a scoreflash came through..and the inevitable reverb of everyone saying 'scoreflash' goodtimes.
breadandcheese Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 Ha ha. The best scoreboard ever (said with a nostalgic glint in my eye) The fun of being a seven year old and playing the game of catching people out with a scoreflash. How many people can you get to look at the scoreboard by saying "scoreflash"? The joke is there wasn't a scoreflash and everybody looked. Ha ha Jokes. Guess I was one of those annoying kids who now annoys the hell out of me when I go down to the Walkers Bowl. Karma and all that rubbish. I always used to wonder whether the players looked up at at the scoreboard for a scoreflash or not. They must have known from the hush and excitement of the fans about any scoreflashes. p.s. apologies to those who I annoyed with the scoreflash game. I now know the error of my ways.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 Made me laugh at Charlton away last season when they showed highlights of previous Charlton-City games on a big screen and our lot stood there watching and laughing at each other.

evs_the_fox Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 i remember when they put the new one up on the family end, it was allegedly the most sophisticated of its type around! it cost about 500k!! they did a big article about it in foxesmag or summut like that! haha

Haha there were always missing bulbs on the one - it was rubbish!

The Man With The Golden Grahams Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 The one of the East Stand would typically say " core lash" or something like that, due to the missing bulbs. And of course "eicester City". Reminded me a bit of Reginald Perrin at Sunshine Desserts - a different set of letters missing each week! Or am I the only one who knows what I'm talking about?
