Cardiac Risk in the Young

Dear all,

As you may or may not know this is my last week in the UK for a couple of months before I go away to study, so it is my final opportunity to tell you about my fund raising efforts.

On 20th September I will be in Germany to run the Berlin Marathon. I will be running the 26 miles with Helen to raise money for Cardiac Risk in the Young (C.R.Y.).

You can read about the great work they do at:

http://www.c-r-y.org.uk/

We set about trying to raise £1000 for the charity which has helped support bereaved families close to both of us, so know the extent of the good work they do.

C.R.Y. also carry out screening programs for the early diagnosis of cardiac abnormalities. Screening involves electrocardiograms (ECGs) and ultrasound echocardiograms for under 35 year olds.

You can read here an article from the C.R.Y. citing the tragic death of young footballer Antonio Puerta, and the incident involving Clive Clarke at half-time in Leicester's clash at Nottingham Forest.

http://www.c-r-y.org.uk/the_independent_30..._specialist.htm

Our total raised currently stands at £774.26. If you would like to contribute I'd like to direct you towards our fund raising website at:

http://www.justgiving.com/helandtomrunberlin/

If you want to quote (FoxesTalk) on your donation, it'd be great to see your support.

Thank you for reading and I'll be back in November to tell you all about it,

Many thanks,

TBF

Thank you El Empty for your donation, you can see it on the donation page now.

I will donate something on Friday when i get paid.

When i was at college, some guy just died in the middle of class as the result of cardiac arrest. Very strange day that was.

As someone who has quite regular heart palpitations I know how worrying cardiac problems can be in young people. Luckily for me they're benign but lots of others aren't so lucky.

Have donated enough to push you to £800 mate, all the best.

SVT perchance?

My brother had serious heart problems from birth and he was luckily saved by surgery when he was 16 so Im deffo gonna donate.. He spent his entire childhood not being able to do any sports and being taunted for being weaker than his peers... know its not exactly the same sort of thing but any heart-related charities always get my support!

Good Luck and well done to you! :D

My cousin's had heart problems since birth and may have to get a pacemaker fitted. She's the same age as me (23). Ridiculous. Count me in for donating.

Oh, if you see two (female) Finnish twins have a cheeky fag before the race starts then say hello, one of them is my housemate.

I had to look that up! No it's not that, they're just occasional irregular heart beats (brought on by stress, caffeine, etc). Scared the shit out of me for years then I finally sorted myself out and saw a GP. He referred me to a cardiologist through BUPA who did all sorts of tests - ECG, x-ray, stress test, 48hr heart monitor, blood tests, etc. All came back fine, just something I have to live with.

Thought you had something similar from previous posts I've seen, is yours this SVC then?

I get the irregular beats (alcohol and caffine in the same day is a killer) and that sets off tachycardia if my pulse is already elevated in any way. SVT, yeah. Having a bit of an operation in less than a month actually, catheter ablation. I should point out that it's elective and the condition isn't dangerous, but I would sort of like to reliably be able to play some sort of team sport again instead of having to not bother in case I leave the field clutching my chest.

I won't lie, this is a shameless bump. But, with just over a week until i run i am £105 short of the £1000 target. It would be great if i could go to Germany knowing we'd raised £1000. Thanks.

Just a bit? Not a full operation? lol

I did the Leicester Half for this charity last year. One of the guys who was running with us, his brother died of heart failure at 18 and we all chose to run for this charity as his folks had become involved with it after the death of their son.

Good cause indeed
