there just the rules of cash games mate

some Casinos turn cards over on cash games and some dont

Ok, I thought I was getting ripped off! I've never been in a casino for a game yet, what's the least you have to spend in them for a game?

Are you on about online or live?

Either way, you are entitled to see the other persons cards so if you want you can ask to see them, I'm pretty sure about that.

It is annoying when someone doesn't turn the cards over and they end up slow-rolling you when they hit their card on the river.

If you're online and you want to see though, you can just check the hand-histories.

It's the 10/20cent blind cash game on Party Poker. On an $11 sit n go when there's an all-in called you get to see the other players cards before the last cards are drawn, but not in the cash blind tables.

Seems a bit funny how I don't see their cards until after the river if they are all-in pre-flop, I still don't get it !

You can play down Gala on a Friday night for £16.

It's just old cash etiquette as far as I know. It is a strange one, I don't think they do it on PokerStars, where I play.

Slow-rolling is when you think you've got the best hand on the river but then someone slowly turns over a better hand when they know they have the best hand.

Defo gonna get down Gala for a game if they still do it!

I've got a few poker questions for you regular players. I've started playing online alot (10 hours or more a day) and I've seen people talk about their 'poker notes'. Do any of you make notes about other players and if so, what kind of things is it good to make notes of? I think it's a good idea for me to start doing this because I am running into the same players often but my memory is not too good.

Another question - what is the wisest thing to do with low pocket pairs like 77 pre-flop in tournaments when you have 9 or 10 players at each table? I like to limp in with them and hope to pick up a set on the flop, but I've noticed that I'm losing alot of chips this way to flushes or straights to people who most likely wouldn't be involved if there was a decent pre-flop raise. I also lose alot of chips with low pairs by calling pre-flop raises and then having to chuck them after the flop to a big bet. Should I throw these cards away more often than not pre-flop when there are 9 or 10 players or should I be more aggressive with them?

These questions probably have lots of different answers but I'm just looking for a bit of advice now that I'm taking poker seriously. My game's come on no end in the last month I tell thee! Dreaming about poker every night and everyding, constant hands and flops, so probably need a break!

With this it all depends on position.

If you are amongst the first to act I would personally fold. As if you limp in and then are followed by a raise and a re raise and a few calls you are liable to call due to pot odds; and then if you miss the set on the flop and people bet, you will have to fold (losing a lot of chips in the process) and that is why you should muck. Or if you are feeling lucky you can raise and play it off as a high pockets pair such as Kings, and then either trap if you hit your set, or bluff if you miss. Never just call.

If you are in a later position and it has been folded round to you then I would, raise around 3 x the BB, and then you will more than likely just pick up the blinds, or if you do get a call then you will have position on them and can dictate the play post flop.

Even if it gets folded round to you and you are SB I would still raise, enough to steal the BB. Just calling always shows weakness, unless you are trying to trap.

In a smaller handed cash game this is not the correct advise, but with 8,9,10 person table tournies it is the way to play them.

Anymore questions feel free to ask

Holy Crap. Frickin gutted.

Just got knocked out of a tournament. 54 players left, had to get to last 30 to get in the cash. 9000 odd chip stack, blinds are still only 125/250 as they'd been reset to 10/20 (action hour rebuy).

I got QQ and there are four of us seeing a flop. 3 Q 6 all hearts so I'm worried about a flush. Three of us end up putting over 1000 chips in to see the turn which is 3 of clubs. I'm relieved as the flush now can't beat me with the Full House QQQ 33. All three of us get another 1000+ chips in to see the river which is Jack of spades. I'm last to bet and both of them have put 3000 odd chips in but they have much bigger stacks than me.

I've got around 6000 chips left and after thinking for about 10 seconds that pocket 3 is all that can beat me I go all in. Get called by frickin 3333 and nearly passed out. Came 2nd (only made $74 profit over 7 hours so not sure it's worth the effort, might have to step up a few levels) and 5th (about $35 profit) in this same tourny already this week so was hoping for more!

All that advice is appreciated Unabomber and I'm gonna keep that in mind :D I'll have loads more questions.

I'm only just starting to learn this stuff about position. I remember when I first heard that phrase in this thread and up until recently I thought that 'play your position' meant that I should play my stack size! So when I had a big stack I would start raising and re-raising alot with any cards pre flop (which did kind of work but got me into alot of trouble too), but now I understand that position means where you are sat in relation to the button so am gonna work on that!

I'd like some more tips about not showing weakness and all that because I have been a bit of a constant caller, hardly raising (always scared of bad beats) and end up taking fewer chips than I should do. I checked my stats recently and my raise/re-raise percentage was between 0-2% which must be way too low from over 2000 games!

Unlucky empty, nothing else you can do in that position though.

Yeah, really thought I'd won that hand but still gutted I didn't just call. Would of still had 3000 chips left to play with and would have got to have a moan and cry in the table chat!

Just spent 5 hours in the Daily Summer Million Freeroll, trying to qualify for the Party Poker Summer Million, because I can't afford the $640 entry fee. Came 46 out of 9108. Only first place wins $640 entry to the Summer Million, second place gets $100. I got $6 (a 4 pack of Babycham) for my efforts but it was a good game. Highlight - Some dude goes all in with 40 odd thousand chips with KK, gets called by AA and a K comes out so he doubles up to 80 odd thousand. AA lost. Very next hand I've got AA, same dude goes all in again with his 80000, I call with my 70000. He's got KK again but both other Aces flop and I get four of a kind and a massive double up to send me flying up the rankings. Lovely stuff. Felt a bit sorry for the KK guy though.

Is anyone else trying to qualify for the Summer Million, or even buying straight in? I'm gonna try a few more times while these qualifiers are running. Almost impossible but you've got to dream!

**** me, I can't even remember creating this thread, 11:12 pm when I was 19 probably means I was shitaced.

You'll all be pleased to know I now happily lose a lot of money a lot of times whilst playing poker.

Im In exactly the same position. Really wanna learn!

Just play as much as you can/want to, watch loads and read about it.

It's all well and good everyone filling a thread with advice but the real measure is how you apply that when you're actually playing.

Plus, you are no doubt going to develop your own style of play and so if you take advice from people who play completely differently you could end up playing really erratically and getting yourself into trouble.

Don't even remember making this thread.

needless to say I'm now a master at getting drunk and losing money online.

Haha aren't we all.

I played some tournament last night my first in about 12 months and finished 5th out of 650. I've now qualified for some $250k event which i will likely get knocked out in after a few minutes.
