COVENTRY City Academy manager Gregor Rioch says the result is top priority tonight when his Under 18s side take on high-flying Leicester City in the FA Youth Cup third round at the Ricoh Arena.

Rioch admits that while he normally approaches the academy's Premier Academy League games with more emphasis on the development of his youngsters than on the final score, he said tonight's FA Youth Cup clash, kick-off 7pm, was the start of a quest to try and get as far as possible in the competition.

"You have to find a balance between results and the development of these lads so while we try and win every game we play in the league, sometimes the boys' development has to take a precedent," Rioch said.

"But the FA Youth Cup is a bit different to the league in that it is a knockout competition and we will always go out and look to get the right result.

"The ages of players are more tightly watched as well which makes these clashes a more accurate comparison between teams.

"This competition gives us a chance to put our boys on the main stage at the Ricoh Arena which is again valuable experience because we normally play our games on our own pitches so to play on the first team pitch will be beneficial to our players."

Rioch though is under no illusions of the task his side face tonight considering Leicester's impressive start to their 2009/10 league campaign.

"To have 11 wins and one draw from you first 12 games is going to make you the favourite and Steve Beaglehole has done a fantastic job with the young players at Leicester.

"But I have every faith that our boys will stand up to the task ahead and we are relishing the chance to play winning football against a side we have already played once this year so we will have an idea of what to expect.

"It's a local derby so it will add spice to the fixture both for the players and the fans so I would expect a very good game for the spectators."

No mention of it on the LCFC OS.

Brilliant second half performance. Schlupp equalised a minute into the second half, chased down a passback and it cannoned off him into the net from their keeper's clearance.

Jorrin John ran half the length of the pitch down the right and lobbed the keeper from a tight angle to put us 2-1 up, they scored with a header from a free kick and then with 3 minutes left, Chamberlain ran onto a pass from Milnes and turned the defender before curling it into the top corner with his right foot.

We were dire first half, superb in the second and just about deserved it overall.

Full report on the Merc website tomorrow.

Nice report. Sounds like the second goal by John was something special.

Thanks. :)

At the time it looked absolutely fantastic, but we were right up the other end (where the City fans were for the league game this season) from where the goal was scored and the report on Cov's OS said it took a deflection - same for Chamberlain's goal too. From where I was, they both looked bloody brilliant finishes but perhaps not. Ah well. lol
