davieG Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 I don't think I understand the offside rule, I think probably 3 times today (Atleast) the referee/assistants gave us offside and the ruling of offside I understand they were clearly onside, and it's not just today it happens week in, week out. On a whole though and I think it's a coincidence todays referee was one of the better officials.Certainly better than Mr Marriener or whatever his name is. It is amazing how when we lose or draw the referee gets a lot of abuse and seems to make alot of bad decisions but when we win no-one bats an eyelid, coincidence? However, It does make me laugh when we lose or draw when people blame it on the referee though. It matters less if you win. This forum would be full of abuse for the ref for stopping the game for an injury just as Dyer was off on a run and had already started to leave his two markers in his wake if we'd been losing or drawing. Doesn't make the decision any more wrong or right it just was not so relevant or noticeable.

Thracian Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 Today's ref can have some respect. Apart from thwarting a potential goal for Dyer with what I saw as a soft interruption he kept the game flowing as far as possible and didn't issue a single booking that I can remember. In fact I hardly noticed him or his linesmen which is always a good sign for me.

Sitting behind the linesman I felt he gave several offsides which clearly weren't because he wasn't up with the play especially against Waghorn who was just too fast for him. When I see linesmen like the one today I wonder how they manage to be so fat and unfit looking considering the regular exercise they get and also that the fitness test, if there is one for being a professional referee is far too easy.

This. When the officials warm up you can always (Well 9 times out of 10) know who is the referee and the 2 assistants, The referee is usually that short one who likes to be centre of attention (Short man syndrome) and 2 assistants are generally fat and unfit looking.
