Tommy Posted 15 May 2005 Posted 15 May 2005 Coventry City chairman Mike McGinnity says the Football Association should have built their new national stadium in the Midlands rather than London. The new 90,000-seater Wembley Stadium is scheduled to open in spring 2006 after a number of delays. McGinnity said: "All the infrastructure was already here in the Midlands - we had the airports, the road network and the rail links already in place. "It made more sense to build the national stadium in the Midlands." What does everyone think to this

Especially the national stadium, where they had planned to build the stadium there was plenty of near transport links, plenty of other venues near by (Airport/NEC/NIA/e.t.c) and the main arguement I have....Why is the midlands called the midlands? because its in the middle of the country...Why should people one end of the country have to travel to London? Why shouldn't londoners travel the same as everyone else to the middle of the country? -If I remember right I think I started a thread on here when the Midlands got turned down for the national stadium...

It cost so much more to build the stadium in London but this country's "power-people" are all based in London and only look out for their own interests. The media is also London-centric so it was never going to come to the Midlands, regardless of the merits of such a bid.

C-man Posted 15 May 2005 Posted 15 May 2005 Its going to be a nightmare trying to get near the new Wembley stadium. We had to park 30 minutes away from twickenham yesterday becuase of the volume of fans and traffic congestion 'red route' areas, and we were two hours early I cant imagine how hard it will be to find a parking spot at the new wembley with 90,000 fans Why couldnt it be in the midlands where the traffic is much less congested and there are more spaces to park?

Why should the national stadium be in the capital? - Germany play in Munich (berlin is the capital) - Scotland play in Glasgow (edinburgh is the capital) - Italy sometimes play in Milan (Rome is the capital) - Brazil play in Rio de janiero (Brazilia is the capital) countirs that don't play in their capital, no-one moans do they?

London is the nicest City in this country. The M1 and even the M25 (shudders) are better at coping with traffic than the hell that is the M6 and Birmingham is a 'hole. You won't be complaining when the City get to a final and you have one of the best days of your life!
