MrSpaM Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 Thought Adams did well as an attacking force too, that shot Good to hear Nicky played well, he's deserved more time on the pitch than he's been given imo. I've rated him most times I've seen him play, and couldnt understand why he never played. Hopefully he'l get more confidence now he knows Pearsons got faith in him.
marbelladave Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 San Miguel on tap. :w00t: Feells just like home... Bet it's not 1.50 euros a pint though!...
Thracian Posted 24 February 2010 Posted 24 February 2010 This was the general pattern of play - both Wellens and King made little effort to drop deep and collect the ball; instead, they were very much static. That's not the way I saw it. Seems to me that both were forced to pace themselves because they were getting so little industrial help out of Solano whose first touch was appalling in any case. First half King tried to push forward and in fact had two excellent chances, one of which his powered over the bar from 18-20 yards and the other when he came through on the left to hit the side-netting. Gradually though the swirling snow made the pitch ever more difficult and City's instinctive but inviting tactic of re-establshing their defensive line by 20-25 yards once we'd scored meant that King/Wellenswere increasingly by-passed, Doncaster had farmore of the ball and City had ever-less energy to launch a counter attack from such deep positions as the gamewore on. I'm not even sure Pearson wanted it to happen judging by how he seemed to be urging them forward at times. But it did, Dyer was left as the only ball carrier and Solano was hardly to be seen. I'm no great fan of Oaklery but I'd have him back tomorrow if last night was an example of things to come. People have referred to King pasing backwards. In fact he tried to pass safely because it was not the night for fancy turns and it should have been unreasonable to expect Brown to control and pass the ball safely given the space he usually had. Instead, despite being a defensive rock his passing was nothing short of embarrassing. Indeed, as DavieG rightly remarked it was hard to decide whether Brown or Weale gave the ball away most. That's not to say there were big pluses to City's performance. First 15 minutes until the goal they pressed high and fast putting Doncaster's backline under relentless pressure. Fifteen good minutes was a major improvement on some recent away efforts. Waghorn stole his goal through sheer bloody-minded determination. He was like a bouncer shoving a bully-boy out the door as he fought with his marker to work the shooting position but then came the cool finish that's so often been missing before. He continued to be a hornet around the home defenders even as most of his support gradually disappeared. Dyer deserved credit for not only remaining a threat for most of the match but also attending to a serious stint of defensive duties, Hobbs was immense with emphatic defensive headers, plus some astute and vital positioning which enabled him to get-in various blocks and deflections to frustrate the often threatening Dons forwards. Weale was an utter Jekyl and Hyde. Always in the right place to save, block, stretch or dive at forwards feet to save whatever came at him. But then utterly pathetic in his distribution. It all made for an interesting and sometimes nervewracking game but one from which we plundered three worthy and welcome points.

marbelladave Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 i think there's one place that does it here for about seven quid... Ouch! It (like everything else) is getting quite pricey in the 'nicer' bars and restaurants around Marbella but in the Andalucian countryside where we have a house, a glass, typically around 300ml is about a euro, some places still give you a free tapas... Got quite exited recently with the local 'spoons selling bottles for £1.49, sadly not real though... <_<
marbelladave Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 Thanks to those who took the trouble to give their views, some differences in perception but that is to be expected. This 'sitting back' has been going on far too long to be dismissed easily, a one off and you could say it was down to 3 away games in 8 days, bad conditions etc but it happens every virtually time we get a lead, particularly away from home. Wouldn't mind so much if we were any good at it...
