Car Insurance - quick question

Recommended Posts

Posted

Its come to that type of year where my car insurance is due for renewal, and i have got my quote from my existing company swift cover come through for £750, and this has gone up on what i paid last year. I should have 3 years no claims but i have 2 as they froze a years no claims because i had a replacement windscreen.

My question is, if i say this to another company will they grant me the 3 years no claims or ?

I very much doubt it. Car insurance is going up this year because of all the winter bumps we had (im guilty, sorry).

But what the frig are you driving to pay that?. granted i have the max 5 years no claims and my cars a knacker, but ive got mine down to £110 a year.

Windscreen replacements do not affect your no claims bonus. Your no claims must have been froze for a different reason. Your new insurer will only take what your old insurer will provide proof of - so the answer is no, you ll only be able to prove 2 years by the sound of things.

That's what it is like I'm afraid for people our age, particularly men.

They can do - depends on your insurer.

Just checked and Swiftcover do 'freeze' that years ncb. Never heard of such a shite term.

For decent cover go to www.adrianflux.co.uk

Try directline I found them to be pretty reasonable - If you are fully comp with them then windscreens don't affect your NCB

Ok well I use an independant as I'm over 40 with years of NCD and so I can't be bothered to shop around. But my daughter who is 19 and has 1 years NCD was going to pay renewal for £800 but after 30 mins on moneysupermarket.com we had a quote for £600. I then rang her existing insurer and got it down to under £500.

So try on-line then go back and haggle. Its worth it. I saved my daughter £300 in an hour. Try it and forget the crap about a windscreen claim, they are taking the piss

lol I don't know exactly how old he is but £750 for a young male is good in my opinion. Considering I'm paying over £1900 per year to insure my Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec. Thats what it is like when your an 18 year old who has fairly recently passed his test. :(

I still bloody love the car though!

Well im 20 and driving a 1.4 Zetec Climate, I've been on the phone all day, and the cheapest i've got is £700 with hasteings and thats with a half price mot, the problem is that if swift would send me a letter saying that if it wasn't for the broken windscreen claim i would have 3 years no claims, but they won't do that, which is halting me getting 3 years no claims

Directline were by far the cheapest when I was getting my own insurance.

I had full NCB but will have to start again with feck all after having had a company car for the last few years and not had my own insurance which really pisses me off. <_<

There quoteing me £1019 with 2 years NCB

where as hasteings direct are £700.17

if i throw the 3rd year NCB it goes to £835

and hasteings to £600

Wow thats a big difference... depends on circumstances too, I know other ppl who got quoted a lot from Directline but for me they were dead cheap.

Well, after setting my mum loose on the phone to swift cover they said i should have a letter, this time next week saying that if it wasn't for my windscreen claim i would have 3 years no claims :) After trawling the net the cheapest quote i could come up with for 2 years no claims was hasteings direct at £700 and for 3 years no claims it was them again at £630 odd. I then saw a advert for AVIVA pop up so went to try them and lets say i'm a good £250 odd better off with 3 years no claims to :D :D

Yeah so needless to say, anyone looking for cheap car insurance with 2 at least 2 years no claims and around 19-21 try Aviva at the minute!

I'm that happy lol!

If you can get a letter from your employer or their insurer saying that you haven't had a claim in x amount of years some companies will give you no claims credit, limits the companies you can use but it worked for me when I came out of a company car scheme.
