Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 My first World Cup memories are Owen's goal against Argentina, Beckham's sending off, Diego Simeone's play acting, Campbell's disallowed goal, and David Batty's penalty. Horrible game.
Alexikokopops Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 1990 - I was just about to turn four when this was on, and as such all I remember is Spitting Image taking the piss out of Gazza afterwards 1992 - nothing 1994 - spending the whole final giggling at the name Dunga (I was 7, it's not my fault) 1996 - Gareth Southgate, the whole of England is with you... 1998 - the Argentina game is my main memory. Owen's goal and Beckham's kick 2000 - gash 2002 - nearly missing a Geography GCSE exam because I was watching an Ireland (or possibly Nigeria) game around a friend's house. Sweaty jog to the exam hall 2004 - France? Who are they? Oh. Ah well, this Rooney lad's looking good. As long as he doesn't get injured we'll sail through... oh. 2006 - Watching us play Trinidad and Tobago in a beach bar on a Hungarian campsite. Went mental when Crouch scored 2008 - Moving house and having no TV. Watching a Holland game on a tiny TV in a pub called the Turks. Spain won you say?
James. Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 2006: nearly getting into a fight in the Clapham Grand after England won the first game. Feeling a bit shell shocked in Cargo after watching the penalty shoot out against Portugal. 2002: losing my job because I phoned in sick on the day of the Argenina game and then work rang my house and my housemate told them I was out watching the Argentina game. Getting pissed on Snakebite in the Student Union at 6am before the Brazil game. Beating Denmark on my birthday in the sunshine. World Cup during student years can not be beaten. 1998: cheering Scotland on against Brazil on the opening day. 1994: just remember everyone going on about how hot it was. 1990: Gazza, Lineker, tears, Bobby - what a World Cup that was. 1986: I was 4. 1982: being born.
Sparky Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 1998 .... Had just bought a round in a bar called Planet ootball (The f had fell of the sign) in Tenerife when Sol Campbell scored, the round went up in the air while we were going mental only for joy to turn to despair after it was ruled out. The penalties destroyed me, i just wanted to go bed and forget about what had just happened but the lads convinced me to go out in to the main strip and it turned out to be a good move as we Met Muzzy Izzet who was thier with a few pals and with me wearing a City shirt by this stage he came over and spent half hour or so having a beer and chatting with us.
