marbelladave Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 not the team i'd start with but i reckon we'll line up like this. Weale Neilson Morrison Hobbs Berner Dyer Oakley © King N'Guessan Campbell Fryatt Subs: Logan, Kennedy, Vitor, Wellens, Gallagher, Crncic, Howard I would start Wellens instead of Oakley As i said earlier, they are the players who have done the most pre-season, so it is a reasonable shout for a starting XI. The odd thing is that Wellens has featured less often than Oakley, maybe Sousa does not fancy him or maybe he's carrying a knock... Until we see how Sousa sets us up and wants us to play its difficult choosing a starting line up. Two things worry me though, With the transfer window still open and plenty of activity, both in and out rumoured, it could be at least a month before we can get to anything like a settled side/system in place, we could be well off the pace by then. Also if Sousa plays 2 wingers and 2 men up, we could well be over run in midfield as regularly happened under Pearson, but then again maybe Sousa knows more about setting up the side than Pearson did. We'll find out soon...

davieG Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 From the Merc After playing the last 18 months out of position, Matt Oakley is back where he wants to be. Oakley looks set to start in the centre of midfield at Selhurst Park today when Leicester City's Championship campaign kicks off against Crystal Palace. He couldn't be happier. "I'm back in the middle, which is where I've always wanted to play," said the 32-year-old. "For the last 18 months I've been playing out of position, which I've done for the benefit of the team. I told Paulo (Sousa) I wanted to play in the middle and he's given me my chance. I feel good at the moment, I feel sharp, I feel like I'm playing well and I'm enjoying being in that role. "My position is in the middle and, hopefully, I can play well and keep the shirt." The arrival of Sousa has heralded a major change in playing style. It is something that Oakley is buying into big time. "I like to get the ball on the deck and play, that's he way I grew up in football," said Oakley, who is favourite to captain the side today. "I've always played in good footballing sides and it is nice to see someone (like Sousa) trying to change the English mentality, if you like, of not always passing the ball and not always playing at the back. "I think the fans will be impressed with how we're trying to play, but they have to be patient. It's a different style, we might make mistakes, but I think we'll be nicer to watch." Oakley is a veteran of more pre-seasons than he would care to remember but is happy with City's preparations. There was a notable victory at Peterborough, followed by an impressive showing against Sunderland last weekend. "We played a good Premiership side with big players and didn't look over-awed," he said. "I thought we gave a good account of ourselves and were very good in the first half. It was only a mistake for their second goal which cost us the game. That was the difference. "We've worked on a different style, the manager wants us to pass the ball a lot more. We're taking on board what he is saying and we are creating chances, which is great "We created chances in the first half against Sunderland and could have been leading at the interval. The signs are good if we can keep going like that. Progress will start to come the more confident we get and the more games we play." Sousa was keeping his starting line-up under wraps. Summer signings full-back Tom Kennedy and striker Leon Crncic will be in the squad. Central defender Miguel Vitor, on a season-long loan from Benfica, returned to training this week after a thigh injury, but Sousa may opt to stick with Michael Morrison and Jack Hobbs. Another new addition, Moreno, could figure in midfield. Paul Gallagher has missed four of City's six pre-season matches with a thigh problem and remains a doubt.

Vlad The Impaler Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 I'll go with. Weale Morrison Hobbs Moreno Berner Gallagher King Wellens N'Guessan Fryatt Campbell Take Moreno out and play Vitor, apart from that, I think that's our best team.
Narborough_fox Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 I actually wouldn't mind if Oakley started he gets way to much stick out on the right.
Callabinho Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 I think it will be: ------------------------------Weale Neilson -------Morrison-------Hobbs-----------Burner -------------------------------Moreno--------------- -------------Oakley ------------------------------King --------------------------------- Gally-------------- ----------------------- D.J-----------------Fryatt But then again maybe not, offers no width.
