Criggers Posted 19 August 2010 Posted 19 August 2010 Frank Noble? Whose that? I forgot they had put Frank in the topic title too... So take out the "u" and make call him Mark
marbelladave Posted 19 August 2010 Posted 19 August 2010 Really impressed by how many people have already written off our squad this season on the basis of the first three games under a new manager, despite some promising new players arriving, and a welcome return to form for some old hands. In particular... So we need a playmaker because we created lots of chances but didn't put them away? Riiiiiight !!!!!!!! Edit: Forgot the mandatory half dozen exclamation marks for this thread. Sort of.... We get the ball to our strikers in forward positions a lot, but they are rarely clear cut chances. It is my view that we get the ball forward too slowly so by the time the ball reaches our strikers they are well marked by an organised defense. A 'sharper' midfield will get the ball forward quicker, find our strikers in more space and create clearer chances. So in that sense we do need a playmaker, Wellens being far too slow and deliberate to fulfill that role. Personally I would bench Wellens and give King the pivotal role, but I can see why many want an established playmaker brought in...

I like king he works hard, gets into the box well, and rarely gives away the ball but not many of his passes are incisive. Wellen is always trying something whether it comes off or not.

That is pretty much the established view, I can see why that is the case but I don't agree. King moves the ball quickly and feeds his forwards before the defence can get organised, incisive passes are not always needed. On the other hand Wellens slows up the play, he holds on to the ball too long so that the defence is set and so most of his passes comes to nothing. My prefered option is to combine King and Gallagher as the creative option with Oakley or Moreno holding, Wellens has to go as he does tend to try and dominate and much as I like his combativeness, I find he stiffles our attacking play. Unconventional, I know, but seeing Dyer and Campbell in particular crying out for the ball played early into feet and it not arriving is an issue I would like to see resolved!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 19 August 2010 Posted 19 August 2010 I am not deluded or dumb, sorry to tell you that, which can only mean ( as I totally disagree with you ) that you may well be the dim one. Fifth last year, and we already have a better squad than last year. If you ask me nicely I could spell that out for you, so that you can understand what I am saying! Oh, by the way I think you mean 'is deluded and dumb'. Enough said! Sorry, my friend, but I think you are being over optimistic, about our chances. At this moment in time the squad, in my view, is on a par to last season. If we do get some money soon, then I think next season would be the one we all want.

Nouble, 18, was a major star for the England Under-19's at the European Championships during the summer. The talented forward has made eight appearances for West Ham but is unlikely to secure a regular starting place this season and manager Avram Grant is keen for him to get some regular first-team football under his belt. Nouble has experience of playing in the lower leagues after spending loan spells at Swindon and West Brom last season. Both Swansea and Leicester have been monitoring his progress and hope to secure his signature in the next few days.
