FoxyPV Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 Have you met Martha? At least they're not like Edmund - who thinks putting the quangos on the bonfire is a superb idea... Have you met Jim? +1s for everyone.
FoxyPV Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 Er.... what was your fiances name out of....mmm..... curiousity....? I'm good for newspaper at the minute, but if FoxyPV could bring some nutella and a few of those little rowntree jelly pots (not the fooking green one you spacker!) then I'm sure we can make room... Chunky or smooth - because if it's smooth I'm out! No problems on the jelly pots though.
Guest lcfc80 Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 deja vu didn't Gordon Brown say pretty much the same thing did he fook
Guest lcfc80 Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 Am I the only person that thought some of these bodies were actually quite good? i'd guess you are in a massive minority
The Doctor Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 maybe i'm being obtuse but what are Quangos? Are they just government offices?
Zingari Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 did he fook In a speech in January 1995 shadow chancellor Gordon Brown said: "The biggest question… is why our constitution is over-centralised, over-secretive and over-bureaucratic and why there is not more openness and accountability. The real alternative is a bonfire of the quangos and greater democracy." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-11536323

FoxyPV Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 care to explain what they are then? just off the top of my head. Quasi Autonomous Non Government Organisations are usually set up by the govt to deal with specific issues or areas that the govt feel needs addressed but doesn't want to deal with directly. They are generally semi privatised - part govt funded but seek to make to a profit.
lcfc_jme Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 lol lol This is one of the best pages I've read in ages, if only for the 2 nazi pigeons ! Brilliant!! Edit: It was page 3 when I meant to post, I've been taken onto page 4. Edit 2: Dr Singh is an absolute machine. Anyone offered time with him should take it.
Jon the Hat Posted 16 October 2010 Author Posted 16 October 2010 In the interest of balance, the Tory government before the New Labour government was just as guilty of stupid quangos. I don't see this as being a right/left thing. And for the record, I'm strictly apolitical - hence the above balancing act. Agreed. Seems to more about length of term in Government.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I think you'll find QUANGOS are just "funded" by Government. If they made a profit they would be kept as anything that makes a profit would help pay off the deficit. Come to think of it, anything that makes a profit in this economic climate would be a miracle.
