Lift to Barnsley

My son (14) and my dad (70) are looking for a lift to Barnsley on Sat as I understand the buses are full - unfortunately I'm out of the country so can't give them a lift.

Are there any other options other than the bus or train ( this is £50 each so is a non starter ) ?

They would obviously be happy to share the petrol money if anyone has room in their car.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be grateful

Actually the train is just over £50 for both people on a return ticket.

Had a quick look on google map and the train station doesn't look to far from the ground - has anyone actually done that walk ?

Only with a railcard, similar to 16-25.
