B52 Posted 28 January 2011 Posted 28 January 2011 We can take Millwall for example. They were 3 points ahead and a game in hand. If they had won against us and the game in hand it would have been 9 points difference. If they lose their game in hand we're equal. Their points over us and game in hand erased in only two games instead of being 9 points ahead.. Pity Millwall didn't lose but when they won they held Barnsley firmly below us..... Games in hand is not that bad sometimes. It creates a win win situation for us.
Benji Posted 29 January 2011 Posted 29 January 2011 Looking at tuesday's games if we can win, a lot of the top half teams are playing each other, I think play-offs could look more realistic within a short space of time. Mind set wise that can only be good.
ajthefox Posted 29 January 2011 Posted 29 January 2011 This is a non issue now. Doncaster have two games in hand but are 5 points behind. At the minute, leeds are 6 points ahead of us. Burnley and reading are above us with 1 game in hand each but even if they both win they aren't going into the play-off zone so that makes little difference really. Watford are the only team that could well make a difference because they are 3 points behind leeds but with 3 games in hand, but still, chances are they'll probably only increase the gap by 3 or 4 I would've thought. More importantly than all this though, we've got 18 games, 18 bleeding games AND 7 of them are against teams above us. All that aside worrying about it is pointless anyway. We're playing some brilliant stuff, we're on a decent run of late and if we keep on at the current rate, we'll be doing very well. We can only ask that the players do their best and grind out some points, if we don't make the play-offs because other teams simply have too many points then that's just that, at least we'll get automatic next year..
B52 Posted 30 January 2011 Posted 30 January 2011 Yesterday was great for us. Both Norwich and QPR missed two points.
dave the caveman Posted 30 January 2011 Posted 30 January 2011 Yesterday was great for us. Both Norwich and QPR missed two points. I'd rather QPR had won. Hull are more of a threat to our ambitions. The way I see it, with games in hand included, 45 points after 28 games is 'the pace' of 6th place now. Project that forward and you get 74 points at the end of the season. So we need 35 from 18 or 1.94 per game. To put that into context, QPR are on 1.89 so far this season. If there were only one or two teams involved you could say that someone will drop off and we could therefore sneak in on lower than 74, but there are many, many teams involved. Anyone down to 16th. Therefore there has to be other teams who will do exceptionally well, so 74 is a very realistic target. Expecting us to perform significantly better over the rest of the season than the team who are currently in 1st place have been doing so far is, perhaps, dreaming a little too much for me.

There are six teams, if they win their games in hand, between 48-53 points. Every point QPR miss is worth gold. We need at least one team at the top to drop form. At the moment we don't know wich so in my view it's important that every team miss valuable points. I am not afraid of teams around us because I can't believe any of those will have the same run as we. But the top can still hold position and hope we stumble.
Stevosevic Posted 30 January 2011 Posted 30 January 2011 True, but since Sven took over we have averaged more points per game than QPR so who knows. I'd rather QPR had won.
