Baby Elvis Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 Who really cares about this but the teams above us and below us have a few games in hand! Does it really affect us Just really wonna know?
Guest BlueBrett Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 Well yeah of course it affects us. Don't worry though Elvis mate it'll all be fine
Fox You Forest Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 I'll let you know when they've been played.
Simmo86 Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 Teams will all take points off each other! We need to be picking up maximum points before the Cardiff game, then hopefully carry some momentum into the tricky little period that follows!
Houdini Logic Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 Less intense periods* coming up for us then - chance to rest and recouperate while the teams around us play three games a week. * Not intended to be in any way amusing
cc_star Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 They can't all win... but by definition they can't all lose either. Basically the gap to play-offs will get wider, we just need to win games and then worry about it in April, until then there are too many variables except one, a defeat or two or too many draw & we've got no chance I think someone worked out we could be 8 points away by the time the games are played, which could be 9 points given our inferior goal difference. Whichever way you add that, we can't afford slip-ups or to concede last minute equalisers.
MattyFromLE Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 Doesn't mean anything until they're won. I think it'd be more of a challenge to the people with the games in hand mentally, with the added pressure of winning the games in hand
Matt Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 Erm, How are we disadvantaged? At the end of the season we will have all played the same amount of games, if we don't feature in the promotion shake up, e.t.c, it wouldn't be because others had an advantage over us, it'd just mean we not too enough points from a certain amount of games and others teams have. It's also ok saying teams have a chance of going ahead of us but we already have a certain amount of points on the table, the other teams have got to win or draw those games in hand.
Jakemoore Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 I predict a last day battle between us, Millwall, Watford, Forest, Hull and Burnley for 5th and 6th. Either way, it'll be exciting.
AoWW Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 Matt is right. Go and wash your mouth out! Only joking.
darko2k7 Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 I'm just aiming to over take Leeds forget about the rest . Imo it will be QPR , Forest and fingers crossed us to go up
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 Games in hand have already disadvantaged us look at F****t last night they won again sadly and are now 7 points ahead of us with still 2 games in hand but as has already been pointe out at the shake up end of the season id we havent won enough points ourselves as a club we only have ourselves to blame (and a few dodgy ref decisions etc )
Fox1651 Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 We all play the same number of games eventually so if we havent got enough points by the end of the season thats our own fault. Unless the teams with games in hand get to play some of them so late in the season they know how many points they need from it to stay up / go up etc etc but im pretty sure thats against the rules now isnt it?

That would be true if we had the points on the board and were sitting near the top, we have neither the points on the board or the games in hand. That being said, if we win our games we'll make it.
shailen Posted 26 January 2011 Posted 26 January 2011 Look it doesnt matter about other teamd. We need to make sure we win most of our games and we will be there or thereabouts
FuriousFox46 Posted 27 January 2011 Posted 27 January 2011 It doesn't matter what they're doing. We're on the up. It's not really that bad anyway only 1 games all the teams with 2 in hand are firmly in the bottom half.

DanTheMan Posted 27 January 2011 Posted 27 January 2011 Except for Watford and Forest? I agree - ultimately they will be the two teams that may cause some bother, but since they are both already above us in the table at the moment, and since our first target should just be to get into the playoff places, Leeds set a good bench mark since they are on the same number of games as us. Once we have gotten into the playoffs, then we can worry Forest and Watford. Just had a quick check of the fixture list, and I think I'm right in saying Forest will be caught up on games by 1st March, and Watford by the 15th - between now and then we should be trying to keep the Walkers the fortress it currently is and to start seeing out the away games - points thrown away like at Preston the other week will quickly turn from an mild annoyance to season-defining in the coming weeks if we are looking to stay in the play-offs, and especially if we are thinking about sneaking a challenge for the 2nd automatic spot (however unlikely that seems at the moment)! HA!
Matt Posted 28 January 2011 Posted 28 January 2011 Matt is right. For once.... That would be true if we had the points on the board and were sitting near the top, we have neither the points on the board or the games in hand. That being said, if we win our games we'll make it. Huh? My point was that there is no advantage/disadvantage "That would be true if..." So what is untrue? At the end of the season all teams will have had the same amount of games? True? If someone is above us they will have had the same amount of games but too more points from those games or scored more goals/defended better? True? There is no disadvantage? True?
B52 Posted 28 January 2011 Posted 28 January 2011 Games in hand builds pressure on a team. We can play catch-up for fun. It's all in the mind so it's easy for Sven to solve that problem. His glass is always half full as mine. We can take Millwall for example. They were 3 points ahead and a game in hand. If they had won against us and the game in hand it would have been 9 points difference. If they lose their game in hand we're equal. Their points over us and game in hand erased in only two games instead of being 9 points ahead.. 9 points erased........ If you use my mathematical skills we could be on 48 points after two games more. Or something equally the same... If we win against Norwich, Notts Forest, QPR, Watford, Burnley, Reading and Cardiff, we have effectively erased a lot of their advantage in points or games in hand. We have also bagged 21 points.
Corky Posted 28 January 2011 Posted 28 January 2011 For once.... Yep. All we can do is win our games, we can't affect the results of others. We'll be where we deserve to be after 46 games.
Guest bennytwohats Posted 28 January 2011 Posted 28 January 2011 Huh? My point was that there is no advantage/disadvantage "That would be true if..." So what is untrue? You're being pedantic. Maybe disadvantage isn't the right word but you know what he means. We have played more games so the potential points we can get from this point going forward are less than other teams. So being on the same points as other teams we are in a slightly worse position in that the potential number of points we can get is less than them. Are we at a disadvantage over the season? no Are we at a disadvantage from this point going forward? yes That said i agree entirely with the 'one game at a time' sentiments
