davieG Posted 9 February 2011 Posted 9 February 2011 half time would've been very strange. and what's with everyone in the other thread saying 'fair play Ashley Cole, gone up in my estimation, etc'. He went to watch his mate play football, that doesn't suddenly make him a great guy! You obviously missed the whole point of the article which was to point out in spite of his personal failings he's been a stalwart in the England defence for many years and therefore doesn't deserve the booing - I wonder how many of those fans booing have lived perfect lives, so many football fans are full of hypocrisy. As for this should he shouldn't he be allowed in the dressing room at half time well I'm sure Sven and Derek are capable of making the decision

The half time bit wasn't in response to you As for Cole and what's with everyone in the other thread saying 'fair play Ashley Cole, gone up in my estimation, etc'. He went to watch his mate play football, that doesn't suddenly make him a great guy! So what's wrong with people's opinion of him improving surely you would expect that people can change, mature and improve their own behaviour does that not deserve some recognition or are they to be blighted forever for something they did in their past? If so you must be hard unforgiving person.

I have no doubt he does a decent job for his club but I am unconvinced by his contributions to the England cause. I am not doubting his ability but in other areas he is, frankly, a bit of a shit. His awful attitude towards officials is is second only to Rooney but sadly they are allowed to get away with it. My biggest complaint is rather different, when paired (on the left flank) with players he does not 'approve' of, he continually fooks them up. Rarely playing the ball to them in good positions but firing in hard passes when they are well marked is the most obvious but there are other factors too, including abusing them when they do not do what he wants them to do. Downing and Young bore the brunt of this behaviour and it was instrumental in their failure to give a better account of themselves, more recently Johnson has come in for similar treatment. Until recently I used to see a fair proportion of the England games, and this behaviour was quite obvious live, but less so on TV, particularly the 'verbals'.
okie fox Posted 9 February 2011 Posted 9 February 2011 As for this should he shouldn't he be allowed in the dressing room at half time well I'm sure Sven and Derek are capable of making the decision At half time Sven sorted out the problems of the last five minutes of the half when Barnsley were cutting our defence to pieces. So Cole in dressing room couldn't have been much of a distraction.
woody1983 Posted 9 February 2011 Posted 9 February 2011 Ashley Cole isn't part of Leicester City Football Club, so why should he be allowed into our dressing room. Ok he may be Van Aanholt's mate but why does that give him the right to enter our dressing room at half time? Does this mean other players can invite their mates into the dressing room to give them advice? Or is it because he's Ashley Cole and he can do whatever he likes. The way I see it is the dressing room is for our players and staff, it's a private area. It's not a place where random 'Celebrity players' can come and visit when they like. We should be concentrating on winning the game!!!
Ford Super Sunday Posted 9 February 2011 Posted 9 February 2011 So has anyone actually confirmed that Cole was in the dressing room at HT, or are people getting all shirty at what someone's mate told them?
Edmund Posted 10 February 2011 Posted 10 February 2011 http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/news/Gallagher-delighted-star-Cole-City-match/article-3207237-detail/article.html? Gallagher delighted to see top star Cole at City matchPaul Gallagher says Ashley Cole's "guest appearance" in the Leicester City dressing room at the last home game is a further indication of the direction the club are heading in under Sven-Goran Eriksson. The Chelsea and England left-back was at the Walkers Stadium for the 4-1 win over Barnsley to run the rule over his Stamford Bridge "understudy" Patrick Van Aanholt, who has joined City until the end of the season. "Ashley Cole was in our dressing room and I asked if he was our new signing," said Gallagher, who opened the scoring in the rout over the Tykes. "That is how it has been going lately. He is Patrick's mate and he just came to watch the game. It's nice when people like that come to watch us. We must be doing something right. If we get promoted, you never know we could sign him! Sven is a big factor in that he can bring these big players in. "It is fantastic because we are getting Premier League players. "Even on the bench we are strong. I am sure other teams are starting to look at Leicester and thinking they are strong and have a good chance." Attention now shifts to Saturday's clash with East Midlands rivals Derby County at Pride Park and the attacking midfielder believes City can be the team to steal a late march into the play-offs. They stand in eighth spot just four points off the play-off spots and Gallagher said: "There is always a team that comes late on and why can't it be us? "We are not going to shout it from the rooftops that we are coming. We will try and keep it quiet and just sneak in there. You never know, we could sneak into that second spot because we are not that far away. "We have only lost once this year, and that's to Manchester City at Eastlands, so you would take that and since the turn of the year it has been fantastic." By contrast, Derby are in freefall and manager Nigel Clough is under increasing pressure after a run of eight defeats in their last 10 games as well as an embarrassing FA Cup defeat to non-league Crawley Town Gallagher said: "It is a big game and we will go there with confidence, but not too confident. "We will give them the respect they deserve and let our football do the talking." City suffered a 1-0 defeat at Pride Park last season, following a howler from keeper Chris Weale, but he is at the top of his form and the same goes for his team-mates. "We want revenge for last year but we won't go shouting about it. We know what we have to do to win the game. "They are not on a very good run so hopefully it won't change against us."
beemeroo Posted 10 February 2011 Posted 10 February 2011 I can't work out why everyone is being so precious about this. It's clear neither the manager nor the players objected and it clearly didn't affect morale or performance on the day. Maybe we should get over ourselves thinking we're too big a club to have established England internationals lending support to their understudies. To those saying PVA is probably trying to shrug off the Ashley Cole understudy label. Really? Would you be trying to distance yourself from that association if you were a 19 year old embarking on a promising career?
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 10 February 2011 Posted 10 February 2011 http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/news/Gallagher-delighted-star-Cole-City-match/article-3207237-detail/article.html? On a side note it is nice to see Gallagher being so positive. The positive attitude that has been instilled by Sven and DF is in total contrast from earlier this season and for players like Gallagher, last season too. He is finally being able to express himself on the pitch with a lot more freedom. The change in him from looking like he can't be bothered to chasing and harrying is monumental. Long may it continue.
StanSP Posted 10 February 2011 Posted 10 February 2011 It's just a bit weird really, I mean at half time they should be focussing on the game. If I was PVA I wouldn't want Cole hanging around the dressing room, he is trying to establish himself in his own right and probably wants to shake off the Cole understudy tag. If I was someone else in the dressing room, I would think what a twat PVA is for having Cole come along. I mean I'm pretty sure Naughton didn't invite Alan Hutton down, and Mee doesn't have Kolo Toure following him around. Shouldn't Cole be concentrating on his own teams fortunes anyway? If I was PVA, I'd be delighted that my mentor has come down to give me support, especially if he's managed to come in to the changing room and not just sit in the stands. It shows that Ashley Cole is taking his teaching so to speak seriously. PVA knows he has his own game and at the same time knows that Cole is only there to help him out. I don't think the other players would see it as negatively as you are putting it either; hopefully they see it as how far the club has come along (as Gally said in his press conference thing). At the end of the day, it's up to the players and if the manager is fine with it, which Sven is, then there's no problem.
