Rushden expelled from Conference

Rushden & Diamonds have been expelled from the Football Conference for financial reasons.

Relegated Southport will now stay up, while Thurrock will remain in the Blue Square Bet South and Bishop's Stortford will move to Blue Square Bet North.

The majority will just have to go back to supporting Kettering, no biggie.

I guess the rivalry will be missed though.

Regulations are much tougher for these sides than those in the FL.

They're changing the Regs for the FL to something a bit stricter. What happened between Rushden & Diamonds and Leon Knight? I know it was some kind of contractual dispute which meant they retained his registration but refused to play him so he ended up being unable to play for anybody in England.

R&D never had the fanbase to remain sustainable at League or Conference level once their sugar daddy moved on.

Fans of a few clubs much higher up the pyramid (Wigan; Fulham and Reading to name but three) will feel a litttle less comforable after today's events.
