I bought an iPhone off eBay the other day and it should arrive sometime this week, I will be wanting to jailbreak it, first of all; is it free? And 2nd, does it unlock the phone as well? If not then does anybody know how I can unlock the iPhone for free?

Yes its free, and very simple to do. In basic terms all you do is plug your phone into your PC and run a program. Unlocking your phone may or may not be possible, agan you can do it yourself, it all depends what version your phone is. My friend's is jailbroken and I don't see the point in it :dunno:

JBing allows you to install all sort of customisations on to your iPhone, you can change the appearance and functionality of almost anything on it. Apple have cottoned onto this now and in the new version of their software they are implementing the vast majority of tweaks that jailbroken phones have. Plus, if you're a bit of a pirate you can get all of the apps for free

Oh yeah I have played with it and can see all of the customisations I just don't think they're that good. If I wanted to make my iPhone look like a HTC then surely I'd have just bought a HTC... ?

I like the iPhone for what it is, so why would I want to change it?

If you like it how it is then you wouldn't. But there are a lot of people out there who would see the benifits, including Apple. They are releasing iOS5 in the autumn with 200 new features of which about 95% are available to the jailbreaking community, so surely they must be doing something right for Apple to sit up and take notice? :dunno:

I appreciate that. I have watched the video for the release of iOS5 and it looks fantastic - and if the developers of the jailbreaking community are behind this then kudos to them

I just think that if Apple released them then they'd have more conviction and work better etc.
