z-layrex Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 I'm selling an android tablet on ebay, getting all the usual messages of people asking me to close the auction and set it at a buy it now price etc. But I came home today to find an ebay user had requested my number from ebay and rang my home phone number asking my parents to give him my mobile number so that he could convince me to set a buy it now price. I think this is disgusting to be honest.
Kent Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 As far as I know someone can only request contact info if they are involved in something you're selling ie. bought or bid on an item.
Jackirius Posted 14 June 2011 Posted 14 June 2011 That is very bad, i would be pretty pissed off in your position. You have got to be a pretty sad fecker to actually get the number and ring it up though.
DB11 Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 Someone requested my number before. They rang and asked where the instructions were for something they bought This was a few years ago, and I found the instructions when I was cleaning out a few months ago!!

Kent Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 Think about if someone had scammed you or was messing around dispatching something and you had no way of getting hold of them, a number can be very useful in that instance. I don't think a phone call is a big breach of privacy personally.
Itsthejoeker Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 Aren't they supposed tell the person who's requesting the number that they'll pass the details on to the seller to contact them?
Kent Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 Aren't they supposed tell the person who's requesting the number that they'll pass the details on to the seller to contact them? If either one of you requests contact information then you both get an email, if someone is requesting your contact info then you get an email to tell you, and the person requesting gets the details.
ozleicester Posted 15 June 2011 Posted 15 June 2011 I have a cousin in Nigeria who is unable to bid at the moment, can i have your address, times of being home etc to arrange to come around and buy the tablet? That is complete BOLLLOCKS...eBay should not be able to pass on this information!!!
