sbfox Posted 4 July 2011 Posted 4 July 2011 And those standing in seated areas would have no excuse, so they'd either be removed from the ground or moved to the standing area. The fact the seats would be locked away would mean the reverse wouldn't apply either. Nobody is suggesting that the ground should be 100% or even 50% standing, I'm sure a standing area that held 3-4000, about anywhere between 10-15% of the ground at current capacity, would be perfectly adequate. This would actually be safer than the current situation, as the guard rails would prevent falling forward over seats or surging, so no more bruised shins. A good common sense solution imo. i This is the reason why this won't take off at the Walkers. We've seen that the Fosse Boys wanted to move away from L1 for various reasons. Lots of people DO like to stand but don't like the high meathead to normal person ratio found in L block - if they made L block rail seating, you'd still get people standing elsewhere.

Lots of people DO like to stand but don't like the high meathead to normal person ratio found in L block - if they made L block rail seating, you'd still get people standing elsewhere. Part of the reason why the FBs decided to relocate is because L block is always sold out or close to selling out every week. The capacity of that block by itself can't be more than around 1500, though I admit that's an estimate without having accurate figures to hand. It could be possible to have L Block as one area with around that kind of capacity and a similarly sized area in the Kop, thus making a total of around 3k. This would enable those who like to stand but don't enjoy the more confrontational atmosphere in L block to do so. There's no stipulation that every stander would need to be in the same area, and that's often not the case in Germany where there is standing now.
Safe Standing Roadshow Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 Hi All, Noticed you were chatting about rail seats and the safe standing roadshow, so thought I'd drop by. I'd be very happy to bring the roadshow along to Leicester to let you, club execs, MPs, councillors etc. all see precisely what 'rail seats' are at first hand. Our hope is that when opponents to standing see, feel and try out rail seats for themselves they will begin to change their minds. So can you organise things at your end? Maybe a supporters group (Trust, Club?) would like to take the lead and contact me to set something up? Contact details are here: Contact page Cheers!

Safe Standing Roadshow Posted 5 July 2011 Posted 5 July 2011 Cheers - will suggest this to the Foxes Trust board.. Good stuff - had an e-mail exchange with one of your Trust guys a couple of weeks back, so look forward to hearing from him/them again soon. PS: If anyone is going to the Football Supporters Federation Fans' Parliament in London on Saturday or to the Supporters Direct event in Chester next Saturday, you'll be able to see the roadshow unit there as well.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 has anyone got that template letter or can they find the thread that had the template letter to send to our local MPs? cheers
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 I like the prospect of rail seating. Think especially in L1, SK1 it'd be effective. But whether the club would implement this, I don't know. They stand up in L1 anyway I think make SK1, SK2 and N1 would be decent

Guest MattP Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Was at the Klitschko-Haye fight at the weekend, 55,000 all seater stadium, not a person in the stadium (except ringside) was sat down. One of the best atmosphere's I've ever been too, security totally left you alone as its allowed and it was brilliant, add to that you can stand with a beer and a fag (if you smoke) if you want and it was perfect. Actually think its safer as the standing areas seem to have more room...
Foxes_Trust Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 We have had contact with the organisers of the roadshow, however the original date put forward for a visit was a few weeks ago giving us a limited time frame to organise & also around the time the changes at the top of the club were just taking place, therefore we declined the initial date, because if the roadshow happens in Leicester its important this is done properly and in priority that: a) The club is on board with the day b) We can send invites to local political figures (we have good contacts with a number of key figures) c) Ensure maximum locl media coverage So the first base is to achieve a). We have a range of things we want to discuss with the new Chief Exec and are currently sorting out a date to meet up, this will be one topic covered It is then likely the politicians (certainly MP's) could be on annual hols, so we need to get past this period before scheduling Media coverage would need far less notice to arrange coverage However our intention is to ensure this does take place If anyone would like to aid the Trust in the organisation of the day, then please e-mail [email protected]

September may be convenient for them as they're more likely to be working in their constituencies rather than Parliament. Would also be helpful to sound out the Chief Executive and seek her support.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Got my reply from Andrew Bridgen today. Fair play for only taking one day to do so. Thing is, what do I say next??! Dear Mr Ellison, I appreciate the points you make in your e-mail. There is a strong argument that the Taylor report went too far with it's findings in the 90's and having all seater stadiums in the top 2 divisions rather than by capacity was wrong. However you also have to consider that all seater stadiums are commonplace throughout Europe and indeed the world now with next to no new stadium being built to include standing. UEFA and FIFA are very clear on this and if a team was to qualify to play in Europe, the standing area would not be permitted for use. Whilst I am supportive of the principle of fans being allowed to stand for games, unless the idea has the support of UEFA and FIFA, I fear it would be a non starter as no club which has European ambitions is going to spend money to change their stadium to a state where it will be unable to be used for its biggest games. Kind Regards, Andrew Bridgen

The Year Of The Fox Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 I've told him abou the roadshow and sent him the link to their site. Hopefully he'll come down if we manage to get the roadshow to filbert way
Guest Bilo Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Modern stadia in Germany ALL have standing areas of various sizes. The Westfalenstadion in Dortmund has a 20k+ terrace and that stadium was used for a World Cup semi-final only five years ago. Rail seating allows stadia to keep their all-seater status as a seat can be made available with the simple turn of a key. Other options include seats that can fold flush into the floor for Bundesliga games and can be restored for UEFA/FIFA matches. In short, safe standing areas do not in any way jeopardise UEFA or FIFA eligibility and there are dozens of precedents that attest to this. For a very recent example, look at 1899 Hoffenheim's Rhein-Neckar-Arena which is remarkably similar to our own stadium in architetcture and capacity has a whole end of rail seating, is UEFA compliant and was only built in 2009. Methinks your MP either hasn't done his homework fully or is fobbing you off.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 9 July 2011 Posted 9 July 2011 Andrew Bridgen (MP for North West Leics) has said he would come to the roadshow should it happen at Filbert way
