MikeyT Posted 20 July 2011 Posted 20 July 2011 Leicester City's players will have no excuses if they miss promotion this season, says midfielder Andy King. King has been impressed with the massive financial investment of the club's owners. He believes the Raksriaksorn family have fulfilled their promise to back manager Sven-Goran Eriksson and the players to give them the best chance of getting promotion to the Premier League. As well as seven new recruits this summer, the owners are redeveloping the training ground and making improvements at the King Power Stadium to give the players the best working environment. King said the players had to repay the owners with a successful promotion challenge. "To have the high-quality players who have been brought in is going to give us as good a chance as we could possibly have," he said. "The support of the owners has been outstanding and we can't ask for any more than that. "All the things they have been doing with the training ground and the quality they have brought in just shows they are putting their faith in us. "Hopefully we can repay that on the pitch. "It is down to us and they have done all that could possibly have been asked of them. "The players who have been brought in will add to the ones we already have here, and now it is up to us." Meanwhile, Eriksson has told the first-team players who are not with the squad in Austria this week that they will be allowed to find other clubs. Michael Lamey and Robbie Neilson have already left the club, but Moreno and Dany N'Guessan have not been on City's tour of Sweden and instead played in a friendly against Oadby Town last week. "We have some players at home who aren't here," said Eriksson. "That is a clear message that they can look for another club if they want." Eriksson said he had not heard of any approach from Derby County for midfielder Matt Oakley. However, he added that he would have to sell some of his current squad if City bring in more players in the coming weeks. Football director Andrew Neville has said up to four more players could be joining the squad soon. "I didn't know that (the rumour about Oakley) but we have those phone calls all the time," said Eriksson. "There are clubs interested in our players but, for now, nothing has happened. We will see if more players arrive and, if they do, maybe we will release someone." City face Turkish champions Bursaspor in Villach, Austria, tonight in their fourth pre-season friendly of their tour. They then tackle Valencia on Saturday. A City XI will travel to Kettering on Tuesday night and the final pre-season game is the glamour friendly against Real Madrid a week on Saturday.
Yojoe36 Posted 20 July 2011 Posted 20 July 2011 All there is, is pressure. I mean, everyone EXPECTS us to get promotion. Some people probley expect us to win the league. I just want to get promotion, no matter how we do it. But yes, there is no excuses if we don't go up
Happy Fox Posted 20 July 2011 Posted 20 July 2011 Pressure can only be hinderance if you treat it like that, but taking pressure in a positive sense and it doesn't seem that much of a burden
80footgiraffe Posted 20 July 2011 Posted 20 July 2011 i think we thrive under pressure as a team and with all the new signings coming in the battle for places is heating up so when we play a team, we play a bloody well picked team. The cream of the crop as it were. Sven will be able to help us to promotion because he truly is a great manager and I've always liked him. The lads at leicester clearly all want to play to get into the premier league and every player wants to fight for the first team, something that happens rarely at filbert way. We've brought in real class and pushed premier league interest in our players away to take players to the championship. They've clearly seen the passion and the drive we have to get us into the premier league.
danlcfc4ever Posted 20 July 2011 Posted 20 July 2011 Don't like all this pressure.... assuming we're going up before a ball is kicked.... YES we stand a great chance, the best chance in years... but football isnt always as simple as that! Just look at England at pretty much every tournament over the past decade, the media hype us up so much, the country expects us to win...... and we fall flat on our arse. Lets hope Leicester can ignor the pressure/hype and concentrate on the 3 points week in week out.
Guest MattP Posted 20 July 2011 Posted 20 July 2011 I think we have put totally unneccessary pressure on ourselves this season. It's a damn tough league and a top 6 finish is the aim for me, its always very hard to aim for top 2 unless you have the core of a premier side which we do not. But yes we have now got ourselves into the position where nothing else apart from promotion is good enough.
davieG Posted 20 July 2011 Posted 20 July 2011 It's not the pressure that's the problem when you're 'favourites' it's the ability to break down stubborn 10 man defences, we've always struggled to do that and they tend to be teams in or around the relegation zone and if you can't beat them then you become reliant on beating all the top teams home and away.
FuriousFox46 Posted 20 July 2011 Posted 20 July 2011 I have a great excuse if we don't go up; WEA-UL! WEA-UL!

I just made this point in another thread, but I think we'll be better suited to this tactic this season than last. Although we do need a striker first.
