Thanks for anyone who knows. 123794[/snapback] In very basic terms Desktops (PCs) use Dimms Notebooks (laptops) use So-Dimms You then have various types of Dimm & So-Dimm So-DIMM slots on a notebook are usually accessed by removing the keyboard or by removing a small panel on the bottom of the notebook Some notebooks have only one So-Dimm slot (Usually the thin & light type of notebook) If you have an idea of which notebooks you are considering I can probably give you a lot more details Hope that's helpful?

Now can you explain why laptop memory is more expensive yet more laptops than PCs were sold worldwide last year. <_< 123837[/snapback] Notebook memory has always been more expensive than desktop memory - I don't honestly know why - I would guess fault tolerence of the actual memory chips is higher as it has to operate in a mobile environment - IE Must have a degree of shock resistance It is indeed true that over the last 2 years notebook sales have surpassed desktop sales

I have read plenty of reviews and am pretty sure it is what I want, it just needs an initial boost in RAM as it only initially has 256mb and most of the reviews recommend a 512mb increase so thats where this question came from.
