Jimmy Posted 19 June 2005 Posted 19 June 2005 Does any body know weather he's still at sunderland and weather or not he's still injured
dhermon Posted 19 June 2005 Posted 19 June 2005 last time i checked which was a few weeks back now he was on the come back trail after an ankle problem should be fit for pre-season the info on there site was already 7 days old so that makes the info at least 3 to 4 weeks old now so he may have broken down again
Jimmy Posted 19 June 2005 Author Posted 19 June 2005 his contract must be about up by now, what do you think of re-singing him either on loan or perminantly if he can prove his fitness
dhermon Posted 19 June 2005 Posted 19 June 2005 well thats a mighty big "IF" it only says on their website: Matt Piper Ankle Should be fit for pre-season and as for his contract he signed a 5 year deal so hes there for a while yet well in spirit at least matt pipers profile from sunderlands webbie the last few lines sums it all up really he would have to prove himself over a number of months at the least it may take a season or 2 to prove hes worth the risk now Matt Piper signed for Sunderland in a £3.5m deal from Leicester City in August 2002. The speedy right winger turned down the chance to move to Southampton in favour of the Stadium of Light. Piper was one of the few success stories at Leicester in the 2001-02 campaign and will be remembered for scoring the last goal at Filbert Street. The 20-year-old, who has signed a five-year deal at Sunderland, went on loan to Mansfield Town during his time at Filbert Street. He made his first start for the Black Cats in their 1-0 win at Leeds United in August 2002 and impressed early in his Sunderland career. But Piper's time at Sunderland has been blighted with injuries. He has had 10 operations so far in his career. He underwent a make-or-break knee operation last summer and is close to a first-team return.
Cat Burger Posted 19 June 2005 Posted 19 June 2005 Don't be sentimental, we have a new manager now who doesn't know him, and even though he was good at the time why would he sign someone who's been crocked for near enough three years????
Scow Posted 19 June 2005 Posted 19 June 2005 I can see Piper following Matt Jones in to an early retirement - 10 operations in 3 years is crazy...
Jimmy Posted 19 June 2005 Author Posted 19 June 2005 i wasnt being sentimental, when fit he i a quality right winger, at least at this level, something we dont have, weather CL knows him or not somebody from the backroom staff would
Anish Posted 19 June 2005 Posted 19 June 2005 He was good when he was here but I doubt he'd be anywhere near the same player now after all these injruries. So I don't think he'd be as good as some people may think.
Nationwider Posted 19 June 2005 Posted 19 June 2005 Piper has one year left on his contract at Sunderland, I believe. I wouldn't put much money on him playing football in the top two leagues after this is up.
Little Nicky Posted 19 June 2005 Posted 19 June 2005 So I heard, the board at Sunderland were looking to ship him out before the start of next season, as they didn't want to pay his wages any longer. In his contract is a clause where we get first refusal, and a sell on clause (but I doubt there'll be one now!).
Dave_7 Posted 19 June 2005 Posted 19 June 2005 piper was one of our best youngans, should have stayed put. did he go wen we were in the money problems
Jimmy Posted 19 June 2005 Author Posted 19 June 2005 yea he left not long before we went into administration
