lee(lcfc) Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 i think sven waiting intill a top champ club was linked with a player then bidded for them. he been saying before the transfer window opened he needs a 20 goal striker and he still hasnt got one keeps buying midfielders.
irDeano Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 Sven said he would buy players with championship expeirence after realising in january he had made a mistake, so lets view his signings. Lee peltier- no champ expeirence Gelson fernandes-no champ expeirence Michael Johnson- no champ expeirence John Pantsil- no champ expeirence Paul Konchesky-relativeley little champ expeirence Michael Ball- relativeley little champ expeirence and funnily enough, only half of those players actually played any part in our game last night... Let's judge the players who actually played last night, using your logic, shall we? Schmeichel - Championship experience with Leeds, also had loan spells at Cardiff + Coventry. Peltier - Brief loan spell at Hull, other than that no Championship experience. However, you name drop Norwich as not having Premiership players, well Peltier had two very good seasons at Huddersfield and is the 'Norwich' type player you are talking about... Konchesky - Brief loan spell at Forest. Bamba - Spent the second half of last season with us. St. Ledger - Many seasons of Championship experience with Preston and on loan to Middlesbrough... King - Around 3.5 seasons of Championship experience with us... Dyer - His third season playing Championship football with us, also had loan spells at Coventry + QPR and a short spell with Millwall. I'd say he has Championship experience! Wellens - Third season in the Championship with us, a season of Championship football with Doncaster. Fernandes - No Championship experience Gallagher - Stoke, Preston, Plymouth, in his third season with us. Do I need to go on? Nugent - Preston, Portsmouth, and now us. Again, experience of Championship football... Substitutes Weale - In his third season with us, I'd say he knows this league by now. Mills - Doncaster, Reading, Us = Championship experience Abe - Spent last season with us Danns - Birmingham, Crystal Palace and now us. Waghorn - Third season with us and also spent a short spell on loan at Charlton. 11/16 of the players who played last night have had a decent amount of Championship experience - complain about Sven's transfer policy all you want but you cannot use the argument that they are only experienced in the Premiership...
Simmo86 Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 The main problem with 'Sven's transfer policy' is that we play a formation which relies on having quick wingers who give us width and we haven't signed any. We can't continue to play 4-3-3 or switching to 4-4-2 while we don't have any decent wingers at the club
Babylon Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 many prem players are not effective at this level. fact. Putting fact at the end does not make it fact, all it does is make you look a bit silly.
MC Prussian Posted 18 August 2011 Posted 18 August 2011 The majority of players are established Championship material. Why it's not yet worked out? We've had a rather "posh" pre-season, the media hype and the statements from the Raksiaksorns as well as Sven have done their best to establish a fake feel of superiority. The fans have bought in to it, the media can't stop mentioning it. It's a mental thing - they're playing with the handbrake on in a system they haven't come to terms with. Midfield and attack don't work together, there is no cohesion and when you have individuals like St. Ledger yesterday or Mills on Saturday who give in to the pressure, the whole feeble construct breaks asunder. To be honest, I'm glad this is happening so early into the season because it allows Sven and the players to make the appropriate adjustments. Still 129 points to play for. And I can't wait to see Michael Johnson play - in a formation with proper wingers, that is!

Can I just say I didn't buy it, I've been as pessimistic as ever and said to friends that this is exactly what would happen early on. I've always maintained that if we could keep the squad together next year would be our year.

I've always maintained that if we could keep the squad together next year would be our year. Like I mentioned in the Bristol City post-match thread, this team needs some time off on their own, away from us and the media, a couple of days where they can focus and regroup and re-think the whole approach. They are in dire need of mental therapy. Ease the blockade in their heads. Do something together, go for a longer walk, hike in groups, visit the Peak District. Whatever floats their boat. It just doesn't work presenting yourself as such a liability as a unit at home (!) when you also know (and several players have said this before the season even started) that the opposition will come to the KP knowing in the back of their heads that they're facing "promotion" contenders. Reading and Bristol City have raised their game against us. We've scraped to a nervy win away at Coventry, but have totally caved in during both home games. This is a proper wake-up call for Sven and the "boys" and one can only hope they respond accordingly and professionally.
