Does anyone hold any? And if so, which company are they with? Have they gone up or down since your original purchase?

I purchased some shares at Next a few years back when they were £6.00 a share - Now they're just under £15.00 a share, so a good investment there. I won't be able to claim on them for a few years yet though.

My grandma almost bought me some shares in Leicester before we went into administration, she decided not to buy them in the end but thank god she didn't buy me the shares now! lol

I think (Dunno my mum deals with the account i'm thinking off) I have shares in one of my accounts in the Halifax! Not sure though!:unsure:

Got 250 in Alliance & Leicester when they became a plc.  Were 433p on floatation.  They are now double that.  Which is nice!  :)

Big thing I know about shares is that if I buy em then other people should avoid em.

Recent example was a company called Provalis.

They pioneered a diabetes testing kit and seeing there's multi-thousands of sufferers I thought they couldn't go wrong.

Not only that they were given early permission to sell the product in the US where testing is widespread and sufferers are legion. With other potential major markets like Japan and the Far East beckoning and it all being in a good cause. so to speak, I thought it well worth committing a few bob.

Result - the shares have halved!!!

Conclusions: a) I should have brought Moorcroft pottery which has always proved profitable.

B) I'd better buy some more Provalis cos if I fancied them at the original price then they're an even better prospect at half the money. Or are they?

I have some shares in the company I work for, which is a privately owned company. I'm not allowed to get my grubby little paws on them for another 4 years, and then I can't sell them, unless it's to the Trustee's. Seeing as they're not worth the paper they're written on, I'm not that worried.

I am too cautious when it comes to money - I'd rather invest safely in fixed rate bonds or ISAs and the like rather than shares which involve greater risk.
