liamsm Posted 1 October 2011 Posted 1 October 2011 If your team sheet doesnt start with the name Gordon Banks (the finest British goalkeeper of ALL time) - then im afraid its a fail. Well said
Thracian Posted 1 October 2011 Posted 1 October 2011 wouldve been a cracking side if you couldve fitted Sheahan into it Laugh all you like but in 50 years of watching Leicester he would still be among our best crossers of a ball. Many players could flight and spin a ball accurately but few could do it with such pace and venom. We've certainly no-one who's even close to his class in that respect and he's already got several assists this season in helping Notts County into the Division One play-off places (as he did for Leeds in The Championship). This in just nine appearances. http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/Assists/0,,10794~201110426~25,00.html And this from Konchesky. http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/Assists/0,,10794~201110274~7,00.html It emphasises exactly what I mean in talking about goals potential. Played wide left in a 3-5-2, Sheehan, an excellent passer in general, would be a major asset, especially if he could ever control his impulsiveness..Even now i'd have him back at any time. Even off the bench - and he's better than that - he'd be just the guy who could rescue a 1-0 deficit. Our own crossing and set-piece delivery is worse than pathetic. As for an-time team: From: Shilton/Banks, Rodriques, McLintock, King, Appleton, Kaamark. Norman, Cross, Izzett, Riley, Chandler, Dougan, Heskey, Lineker, Gibson, Hogg, Glover, Guppy. What a cracking team that would be to watch, whoever was picked.
Bugg Posted 1 October 2011 Posted 1 October 2011 If Sheehan is so good, why is he at Notts fooking County after being a failure at Leicester, Leeds and Swindon? League 1 is his level and always will be.
Thracian Posted 1 October 2011 Posted 1 October 2011 Well said If anyone could decide between Banks and Shilton they've got fine eyes. I spent hours shooting at Shilts. He made the goal seem miniscule and was an absolute perfectionist. His workrate and attention to detail would frighten many goalkeepers although I suspect that Schmeichel is just the same. To watch his reaction saving pre-match is entertainment in itself. How far he'll progress I don't know but he does seem capable of restoring our tradition for having top class goalkeepers.
Thracian Posted 1 October 2011 Posted 1 October 2011 If Sheehan is so good, why is he at Notts fooking County after being a failure at Leicester, Leeds and Swindon? League 1 is his level and always will be. He wasn't a "failure" at Leicester, or at Leeds to begin with. He was at around the same stage of development as Gradel and was offered a new contract but refused it. He did much to help Leeds into the play-offs before getting suspended. He had an excellent record of goals/assists at Leicester - far better than any other left-back we had. He had a good first season at Leeds too but suspensions and a falling out with Grayson soon sent him on his way. Sheehan is not always the greatest defender, but he's an extremely creative left-back or left-midfielder. He was far better than Mattock in my view and every statistic confirms that in my eyes. The problem was/is not his ability but his impulsiveness. He's not the only full-back to be iffy on the turn but has a disturbing habit of flattening people who do go by him, resulting in too many sendings off. With the right attitude and application Sheehan could play higher than League One with no trouble. People here said Gradel was no good, together with King, Stearman and Porter. But as in other walks of life, some take the right turns and get the breaks, others take a different line and get nowhere. It's not always about ability and I still have every confidence that Sheehan will play at Championship level again. And that's based on seeing lots of his reserve games too. The bloke was always massively involved and influencial - and far more effective than anyone we've got at present in that role.
Thracian Posted 1 October 2011 Posted 1 October 2011 Anyway, No Stanley Victor Collymore in anyone's Leicester XI? I'll never forget Collymore's hat-trick for us and the wonderful football we produced that day but he wasn't around long enough to deserve a place among our elite. Was there ever such a waste of talent, at least on the football field? I often wonder how good a footballer he'd have been had he been born with a cock like a stunted pencil (which, presumably was never the case) and never set eyes on a woman..
Thracian Posted 1 October 2011 Posted 1 October 2011 Guppy ahead of Glover? You could argue all day about that one. They were both a big danger to any defence.
Kilworthfox Posted 1 October 2011 Posted 1 October 2011 Banks Nish Elliott Osman Kaamark Glover Izzet Parker Weller Worthington Lineker
Alexikokopops Posted 1 October 2011 Posted 1 October 2011 4 full backs, 4 centre backs and 2 strikers and no Franz Carr. Woeful. It's the '94 play-off final team you dolt. 3 up front, Walshy spearheading the attack. BOSH. Job done.
