C-man Posted 25 June 2005 Share Posted 25 June 2005 New Zealand 21 The British & Irish Lions 3 Simply not good enough, i can not see us winning a test this series unless we drastically improve the following things: 1. The Lineout. Awful throughout the game, Chris Jack and Ali Williams just dominated it and Shane Byrne's throwing was not good enough 2. The Breakdown - Rucks and Mauls. We have to stop the All blacks from getting quick ball. If they get quick ball their backs will run through us easily. Also, we have to get quicker ball ourselves. Their forwards did an excellent job of slowing down our ball which meant our backs were under pressure when they go the ball. 3. Depth in Backs. The backs today were too flat when the ball was passed to them. This meant they had no pace on the ball and couldnt break through any tackles. Also it meant the NZ midfeild were up on them quickly 4. Handling. Ok, the weather was bad, but the NZ handling was much better than ours, especially under pressure. 5. Kicking. Our tactical kicking was awful. Everytime it was sliced out of play, our kicked to their back three. Ok, the ref wasnt good, and the weather was bad, and we had some bad luck, but to be honest, the weather kept the score down and helped us. Woodward has to select better next test and i suggest he starts with Ryan Jones at 6, drops Stephen Jones from Fly-half, and recalls Gavin Henson. Also, he should drop Jason Robinson for Geordan Murphy. Your thoughts?

BartonFox Posted 25 June 2005 Share Posted 25 June 2005 What do you expect, another coach who picks on reputation and will never allow his ego to be questioned. Woodward should have been relieved of his position straight after his fall out with the RFU and the realisation he was heading to football. Ian McGeechan is far too old school for this day and age. There was clearly never going to be any harmony in the squad when Woodward has shown nothing but distain for the other 'home nations' during his tenure as England coach. I can't think of a Lions tour where so many people are not fully behind the squad, sadly there will be muffled rejoicing in the Valley's and Glen's tonight. C-man Posted 25 June 2005 Author Share Posted 25 June 2005 ..and Brian O'Driscoll will miss the rest of the tour. Definately a 3-0 whitewash unless NZ field a weaker team in the 3rd test because they've already won the series
surrifox Posted 27 June 2005 Share Posted 27 June 2005 it seems a pity that all the talk about the Lions selection policy has been allowed to subsume reasonable discussion about the deplorable tactics of a number of cowardly thugs (on both sides) that has little to do with rugby or indeed sport of any kind. The difference is that whereas the Lions receive a sending off penalty for a lumpen forward getting on the wrong side the All Blacks (aided by their southern hemisphere cronies masquerading as match officials) are able to commit a crude assault which is considered all part of the rough and tumble
